The team behind Gen V is having some fun by kicking off 2023 with a vague announcement about its release. Over on Twitter, the official account for the spinoff to The Boys posted an image showing the year 2023, teasing the arrival of the series on Prime Video this year. It was then posted in a follow-up tweet that the series will definitely premiere on Prime Video sometime between now and the next New Year’s Eve.

Put together, the tweets from Gen V about the year 2023 read, “Our favorite set of numbers! Other than the Seven! Other than the Seven. Premiere will be sometime between now and Dec 31!!!”

In response to that, the official Twitter handle for The Boys responded with an image of Antony Starr’s Homelander looking very unamused.

Michelle Fazekas and Tara Butters created Gen V, which takes inspiration from the original comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The series spoofs X-Men by following young superheroes in training at Vought International’s Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. While the series will primarily follow an all-new cast, there will be some crossover characters, with one teaser already confirming appearances from Jessie T. Usher’s A-Train, Colby Minifie’s Ashley Barrett, and P.J. Byrne’s Adam Bourke.

“There’s definitely crossover, and we’re doing our best to design a universe that sees some of the issues and storylines in Season 3 hand off to the first season in (Gen V),” The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has said of crossover characters, via Deadline. “Like there’s a presidential campaign happening in the background of that season, and there’s certain things that are happening at that school that are both in reaction to Season 3 of The Boys. There’s Soldier Boy, etcetera, but also some new storylines that are happening in that season of the spinoff that we have to pick up and take into Season 4 of the show.”

Gen V stars Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Chance Perdomo, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Shelley Conn, as well as Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, Marco Pigossi, and Alexander Calvert. Clancy Brown has also joined the series in a key role, and his arrival was unveiled in the trailer.

Gen V will premiere on Prime Video sometime before Dec. 31, 2023. For now, you can watch the first three seasons of its parent series, The Boys, along with the animated anthology spinoff series The Boys Presents: Diabolical. All are currently streaming on Prime Video.
