Production on The Boys Season 4 is now underway. Creator and producer Eric Kripke has taken to social media to reveal that filming has now begun on the highly anticipated fourth outing for the likes of Billy Butcher, Hughie Campbell, and the rest of the supe-combating crew.
Not much needs to be said about the good news, with Kripke captioning an image with a simple “Oi.” Which says it all, really. The official Twitter account for The Boys has since responded, calling for the team to “oissemble.”
Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys takes place in a universe where super-powered individuals are recognized as heroes by the public and owned by the powerful corporation Vought International. Outside their heroic personas, most of these so-called “heroes” are arrogant and corrupt, with the series focussing on the titular Boys, a group of vigilantes looking to keep the corrupted superheroes under control.

The Boys Season 3 finds Billy Butcher in a surprising position – calm and on the straight and narrow. In fact, it’s been a year of calm. Homelander has been subdued. And Butcher is now working for the government, supervised by Hughie of all people. But both men itch to turn this peace and quiet into blood and bone. So, when The Boys learn of a mysterious anti-Supe weapon, it sends them crashing into The Seven, starting a war, and chasing the legend of the first superhero: Soldier Boy.
The Boys Season 4 Will Feature a Major Role for Homelander’s Son
Prime Video
While details of The Boys Season 4 remain largely unknown, it has been revealed that child actor Cameron Crovetti will be bumped up to a series regular. Meaning there will be lot more of Homelander’s son, Ryan, in the upcoming season. The character has featured in both seasons 2 and 3, but considering the end of the third outing, there should be a lot more for the aspiring superhero (or should that be villain?) to do the next time around.
As well as a bigger role for Ryan, The Boys producer Eric Kripke has revealed that the fourth season will be “really emotionally rich” and “character-driven.”
“I’m starting to look at some early drafts of the first couple. We’re still early, I think right now we’re in the middle of breaking Episode 3 and I’m reading a draft of Episode 1,” Kripke revealed. “And even in that stage, it’s early with some heavy rewriting and we’re still in there figuring it all out. But it’s super interesting and fun and really, really emotionally rich. Probably as emotionally complicated as we’ve ever done. So far, that’s been my big takeaway. Everyone is really facing their core issues in a way that’s pretty exciting, a very character-driven season.”
