MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
On The Boys, Quaid plays Hughie Campbell, an everyman who winds up working with an anti-superhero vigilante group after his girlfriend is killed by a famous crimefighter. Led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), the group also includes Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), and the Female (Karen Fukuhara). Each member of the group, dubbed “The Boys,” has their own reasons to take down a team of corrupt superheroes called The Seven.
Leading the Seven is the dastardly Homelander (Antony Starr), a Superman-like superhero who’s just as sadistic as he is patriotic. The other “Supes” that make up the team include Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), Starlight (Erin Moriarty), Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), the Deep (Chace Crawford), and Stormfront (Aya Cash). It has since been announced that Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will be joining season 3 as Soldier Boy, a character showrunner Eric Kripke teases could be worse than Homelander.
“[Regarding the threats I did receive], it’s only human nature to have to react to anger or hate directed right at you,” Kripke explained. “I’m not gonna lie and say, ‘No, I think it’s funny.’ It affects me. It troubles me and everything, but I think it’s part of my job to not let it affect the work and not let it force me to second guess myself and what I’m doing here. So, no, I take a moment, feel appropriately horrified, and then process my way past it and get back to the work of writing the show.”
