The trailer opens up with Homelander descending from the sky, with his face covered in blood and looking rather distressed. Why, precisely he’s looking so rough remains mysterious for the time being. It then quickly transitions into a chaotically arranged sequence of shots that don’t offer a lot of context, in terms of story, but give us quite a few looks at returning characters, including Billy Butcher, who is staring down the scope of a sniper getting ready to take out an unidentified target. Things progressively get bloody as the action-packed footage rolls on. One particularly nice surprise is the inclusion of Giancarlo Espositio, of Breaking Bad fame.
The Boys serves as an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes became as popular as celebrities and as influential as politicians, revered as Gods in the public eye, begin to abuse their superpowers, as opposed to using them for good. The show pits the powerless against the superpowered as a rag-tag group embarks on a heroic and violent quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” who are backed by the formidable Vought International. The cast for the series includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Kapon, Karen Fukuhara and Nathan Mitchell.
