Karl Urban took to social media to announce Noble’s casting in The Boys, sharing a photo of himself alongside his Lord of the Rings co-star. According to Urban, Noble will appear as Butcher’s dad in the upcoming seventh episode of the second season of the show, titled Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker which is set to be released on Prime Video on October 2nd. “WTF! #lordoftherings @theboystv Mashup,” Urban wrote. “John Noble …aka Denetho Is Butchers dad ep7 Loved working with John His Sam Butcher is a brutal force of nature!”

John Noble played the role of Denethor, the Steward of Gondor, and father to Boromir and Faramir in Peter Jackson’s seminal fantasy trilogy. Meanwhile, Urban played Éomer, the leader of the Riders of Rohan. Other than The Lord of the Rings, Noble is most recognized for roles on the small screen in shows such as Elementary, Legends of Tomorrow, and as Dr. Walter Bishop in the science fiction series Fringe.

Thanks to the superpowered chaos of the first season, The Boys have been left fugitives and the series begins with their foul-mouthed leader Billy Butcher nowhere to be found. “It’s a bit of a mystery,” says Urban, on Billy’s whereabouts. “The Boys are on the back foot and spend a lot of their time trying to make an impact and get traction for taking down the Supes. Just because they’re wanted and in hiding doesn’t mean they’re gonna stop doing what they do. So, the objective is still fundamentally the same.”
