MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Moriarty shared images of an online article written by a fan of The Boys on her Instagram account, which condemned the online abuse that has been aimed at Moriarty and other female stars of the show. The lengthy piece which was posted on Medium highlighted the way the message behind season 3’s storyline hasn’t been heeded by those watching the show, pointing out that “the torment doesn’t end for her when the credits starts, because there is no switch off.” Responding directly on the back of the article, Moriarty wrote:

“I do feel silenced. I do feel dehumanized. I do feel paralyzed. I’ve put blood, sweat, and tears into this role (over & over & over again), I’ve grown UP in this character’s shoes (*emphasis on grown up - we change & evolve mentally AND physically). So with that I say: a) thank you to @butcherscanary b) this does break my heart - I’ve opened up a vein for this role and this kind of trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak out against and c) everyone’s going through their own battle(s); let’s not add to that. I will never intentionally (and ESPECIALLY) publicly add to yours. This has only strengthened my empathy muscle and to anyone who comes at me: I see you, I I don’t hate you, I only empathize and forgive.”

The Boys Stars Offered Full Support For Moriarty

On the back of Moriarty’s post, the actress was supported by fellow stars Antony Starr and Jack Quaid, who added their own comments to her post. Starr commented, “Support you and what you say here 100%. Well put ;) Your work on the show is and always has been stellar and you are beautiful inside and out. Keep shining.” Quaid followed this up with, “Love you Erin. We’re all here for you. You’re such an incredible, talented force of nature and I consider myself incredibly lucky to know you. Keep shining bright. Leave the trolls to us. We got your back.”

“The Boys continues to push boundaries in storytelling while also being relentlessly entertaining and threading the needle on social satire that feels all too real. This stylized world of the series has incredible global reach and the viewership for opening weekend is proof of that. We are immensely proud of the cast and crew that has spawned a franchise for Prime Video, but and we look forward to bringing more of The Boys to our customers.”
