When it was first announced, The Boys spin-off series was written by Craig Rosenberg, who acts as executive producer on the flagship series, and the cast was announced last spring, including Cerrero and McGhie in prominent roles. The series was finally greenlit in September 2021, with Fazekas and Tara Butters joining the show and changing the creative direction of the series.

According to Deadline, sources have claimed that both actors have left the series for several reasons, including the length of time it has taken the show to head into production and the many changes that the show has undergone under its new writing team, which is said to have included a major evolution for McGhie’s character. While The Boys spin-off has been stagnating over the last year, both actors have been given other opportunities, and it looks like they have decided that their future is also taking a different direction from what they planned.
