The Book of Boba Fett saw a less-than-ideal start with a first season that was cluttered, unfocused, and frustratingly full of unrealized potential. A fair number of criticisms have been lodged in the aftermath of the bounty hunter’s less than triumphant return to the Star Wars spotlight. Despite a rough beginning, The Book of Boba Fett is likely to be green-lit for a second season.

Star Wars properties are bound to draw high viewerships, despite the critical reception of the show. The immense popularity of anything under the Star Wars banner hopefully will give The Book of Boba Fett the cushion it needs in order to secure a much-needed return to the sands of Tatooine.

Assuming The Book of Boba Fett hasn’t been cast back to the Sarlacc Pit to endure a thousand years of Disney digestion, what can fans hope to see in a second season?

Boba Fett Should Use His Weapon

Should The Book of Boba Fett return to the small screen, the show needs to come out guns blazing, literally. One of the strongest criticisms of the first season is Boba Fett’s pacifistic behavior in the face of nearly every hostile situation. Many felt Fett was an easy pushover for the various mafia groups, local officials, and civilians alike who questioned his authority. Some of these characters went out of their way to disrespect Fett directly to his face.

In response, Boba Fett seldom raises his voice, let alone his blaster. He doesn’t need to return to his heartless days of working for the Empire, but the iconic bounty hunter should probably at least draw his weapon every so often.

Season 2 Should Focus on Boba Fett

A second season would provide the opportunity to make Boba Fett actually feel like the lead character in his own series. For nearly two entire episodes, The Book of Boba Fett barely featured its title character and instead became a miniature season of The Mandalorian. Lest there be any confusion, The Mandalorian is an incredible series and deserves all the accolades it receives. That said, should viewers have spent two episodes following his exploits that are completely unrelated to Boba Fett’s storyline? This is a substantive amount of time that could have been focused on further developing Fett’s rise to Jabba’s throne as he struggles to bring control in the wake of the regime shift.

The Book of Boba Fett needs a second season to prove whose show it really is. Boba Fett is a character who became an icon based on a minimal amount of screen time. Fans have waited years for a Star Wars property to include him, let alone feature Boba as the title character. Boba Fett didn’t crawl his way out of the Sarlacc Pit to be denied the spotlight on his own turf.

The Return of the Hutts

The appearance of the Hutt Twins in episode 3 proved to be one of the show’s better sequences. For a moment, it seemed the show had gained its central antagonist, except the twins are suddenly upstaged by the arrival of the Pikes. Just like that, the Hutts are completely removed from the scope of the story.

A return to Tatooine in season 2 would certainly be bolstered by the return of the Hutt Twins. The Pikes have been dispatched from the planet, allowing the twins to once again focus on reclaiming Tatooine for themselves.

Black Krrsantan as a More In-Depth Character

Similarly, the inclusion of Black Krrsantan was a compelling idea that generated a lot of excitement. Unfortunately, for Krrsantan and fans alike, the character fails to live up to his potential. The intimidating bounty hunter only participates in a few meager fights before he is consigned to the role of a background character.

Season 2 could see the return of a much mightier and more appreciated Black Krrsantan. Boba Fett and Krrsantan have an interesting history of working together in the past. A second season would provide the space to develop stronger dynamics between the two formidable characters.

Closure for the Tusken Raider Massacre

The Book of Boba Fett shined brightest in the early episodes focused on his growing friendship with the Tusken Raiders. For a time, the show felt like a galactic version of films like Dances With Wolves and The Last Samurai as Boba Fett learned to appreciate and even advocate for Tusken principles. Disney has been widely praised for the depth of life and color the series brought to the Tusken Raiders, elevating them to much more than a simple tribe of desert monsters.

Yet again, the show joltingly changes directions. In a sudden twist, the entire tribe of Tusken Raiders is massacred in Boba’s absence. Fett returns to nothing more than smoldering ashes and the lifeless corpses of the tribe who had become family. Many viewers were left feeling unfulfilled with the unexpected amputation of one of the show’s strongest elements.

Bringing back the Tusken Raiders in a second season would go a long way toward providing the closure needed to truly move past Boba’s history with the desert nomads. If viewers are lucky, that might even include the reappearance of the female Tusken warrior who trained Boba to properly use the Gaffi Stick. Though she was never seen again during the rest of season 1, she was never confirmed to be dead. A reunion between her and Boba might be a powerful moment worth working into a second season.

In many ways, the central criticism leveled against the first season of The Book of Boba Fett is unrealized potential. The early portions of the narrative introduce some truly compelling characters and plot lines that are confusingly left by the wayside. Should Boba Fett secure a second season, viewers can only hope to see all of that unrealized potential come to life.
