There’s going to be more of The Bear where season 1 came from. After debuting on the FX hub on Hulu near the end of June, the workplace drama series has officially been renewed for a second season. Per Deadline, the news of the renewal was announced with a statement by FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier.

“The Bear has exceeded our wildest creative, critical and commercial expectations,” Schrier said. “We deeply appreciate the brilliant work led by creator and co-showrunner Christopher Storer and co-showrunner Joanna Calo. Jeremy Allen White’s lead performance is spectacular, as are those of his co-stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce and Liza Colón-Zayas. We can’t wait to get to work on season 2.”

“We are so grateful to FX, our insanely talented cast, our crew who worked hard, fast, and in the dead of winter, not to mention everyone who watched. And we can’t wait to bring you all back to The Bear in 2023,” adds Storer and Calo.

The Bear, which also stars Edwin Lee Gibson and Matty Matheson, was created by Storer. Executive producers include Storer, Calo, Hiro Murai and Nate Matteson of Super Frog, and Josh Senior. FX Productions produces.

The Bear Is Jeremy Allen White’s Next Big Role After Shameless

Jeremy Allen White made a name for himself on Shameless after starring in the hit Showtime series for eleven seasons. The timing was perfect for White to wrap up his run on that series while stepping into something new. In a recent interview with Collider, White explains how the role in The Bear came along and said how much he would have regretted it if he did not accept the part, even though he was feeling a bit of burnout after doing one show for so long.

“We were finishing shooting Shameless,” White said. “It was just really overwhelming to say goodbye to, not only a character, but a real period of time, and this job that also changed my life so much, in just so many ways. So, it was difficult. And then, finding something else, I wasn’t sure I wanted to jump right back in and do TV. Not that anybody was banging down my door or anything, but I just wasn’t sure. I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll stay a little freed up for a while, and see what comes.’”

He added, “And then, I just got really lucky. I started talking to Chris while I was still shooting the last season of Shameless, so it all happened very quickly. The story was just so good and the character was really strong. I felt like my heart really broke for him and I felt like I really understood him. It was just too good to pass up. I think if I didn’t do it and I saw another actor doing it today, I would be really upset with myself.”

You can find The Bear streaming on Hulu. Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date.
