The Batman has finally been released in theaters, giving everyone Robert Pattinson as their new Dark Knight. To say the film has been a hit at the box office would be an understatement with the profits it’s been pulling in, earning its spot at the second-highest weekend opener during the pandemic era. Additionally, it has garnered strong critical praise, and most everyone who has seen the film has had only glowing things to say about Pattinson’s performance as Bruce Wayne, aka “The Batman.”
Not everyone was predicting The Batman to be such a hit, however, when the news of Pattinson’s casting was broken in 2019. Many had taken to Twitter to comment on the news, declaring that the casting was not a good choice and expecting that the film would end up becoming a flop. Pattinson has silenced these critics with the film doing the exact opposite of that, and in light of the film’s success, many fans of The Batman are finding it amusing to go back and read some of those negative tweets from 2019.

“It’s like Warner Brothers wants this movie to fail. Even if he give an amazing performance no one will take him seriously as Batman,” predicted one person at the time.
“And the DCEU can’t understand why they’re not successful?” pondered another Twitter user. “Honestly I can come up with better ways to destroy $200 million. Ruining the most iconic comic book character. What a joke.”
Noting that they also didn’t like Twilight, another tweeter wrote, “I Know Right!! I Saw This Last Night. Why The Hell Would They Pick Him To Play Batman, He Doesn’t Even Have That Look! I Didn’t Really Like When He Played A Vampire!!”
“There have been 3 good Batman actors. West, Keaton and Bale. The rest have been terrible,” says another Twitter critic who’s apparently not too fond of Batfleck, either. “Pattinson can act but he is not the right choice for Batman. He is a step up from Batfleck but still NOT a good choice.”
Even some of those critics who complained in 2019 have now updated their old tweets to admit to being wrong. One person who initially tweeted “I’m upset” to the news was asked by someone after the film’s release to share what they now thought. Pattinson has clearly won over this former critic as is evident from the response.
“Ya know it’s crazy how after all these years, I never thought that The Batman was going to be one of, if not the best comic book movie ever. Totally blew my mind. And Robert is my new favorite Batman, I can’t wait to see where they take this universe and these characters,” the new Robert Pattinson fan wrote.

Warner Bros. Pictures
Matt Reeves directed The Batman using a screenplay co-written with Peter Craig. Along with Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, the film stars Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, and Peter Sarsgaard. The film is a standalone story with no connections to previous movies, and the door is open for a sequel. It looks pretty likely that will happen, but we are still waiting on the official announcement from Warner Bros. For now, fans are loving Pattinson’s take on the character in the new film.
The Batman is now playing in movie theaters everywhere.
