The Batman has finally arrived, and many filmgoers and critics alike have been left very impressed with Robert Pattinson as the titular Dark Knight. When the news of Pattinson’s casting was first announced, it was met with some trepidation by fans who only thought of the actor as the teen idol from The Twilight Saga. Now, he’ll be better known as Batman after turning in such a well-received performance, with some going so far as to name Pattinson as their new favorite Batman.

During production, Pattinson’s co-star Andy Serkis, who plays Alfred Pennyworth, knew that their Batman was something special. Speaking about Pattinson’s casting while on the red carpet for the premiere, Serkis told The Hollywood Reporter why he feels the actor is a perfect fit for the caped crusader. This is due to how convincing he is with both sides of the character, from the way he plays Bruce Wayne to how he comes across as Batman.

It’s not easy playing Batman, as Batman and Robin star George Clooney can attest. It’s something that can either be very well-received or outright despised by most fans if it goes awry. Pattinson can breathe a little easier now knowing that the consensus is in his favor, with The Batman scoring very high with the critics.

“Rob Pattinson’s Batman is just terrific. He’s extraordinary, both as Bruce Wayne and as Batman, and the vulnerability that he brings to Bruce, and the power that he brings to Batman, is just… he was just so wonderful to work with.”

The Batman is Launching Its Own Franchise

     Warner Bros.

It’s a good thing people are loving Robert Pattinson as Batman as there are plans to keep this franchise growing at Warner Bros. At one point, Colin Farrell’s Penguin was planned to be the main villain for The Batman 2, though that idea has been shifted into a tie-in spinoff series at HBO Max. Another spinoff show will follow the police officers working with the GCPD. With no less than two shows in development, we can presume that news on The Batman 2 can’t be too far off.

The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves and co-written by Reeves and Peter Craig. It stars Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Peter Sarsgaard, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright. The movie picks up two years into Batman’s crime-fighting career with a serial killer called the Riddler terrorizing Gotham City. You can read an official synopsis below.

You can now catch The Batman after its premiere in theaters as of March 4, 2022, following a long production process and many release date delays.
