The Batman has become one of the most successful films of the year and is still up for praise and acclaim for the new iteration of DC’s most popular superhero figure, who, in the film, is played by Robert Pattinson. The film has a lot to do in theaters as it’s already nearing half a billion dollars in worldwide earnings, yet, Deadline has reported that the studio has already set the film up for its streaming debut.

According to Deadline, a technical glitch on HBO’s official website has mistakenly revealed The Batman’s streaming release date. The glitch revealed that The Batman will be made available to stream on HBO Max on April 19, and will debut on HBO Linear on April 23. The April 19 HBO Max release suggests that Warner Bros. has stuck to its earlier announcement that all its properties will be released for streaming 45 days after the theatrical debut. In this case, The Batman will exactly be releasing on the 46th day of its theatrical release which was on March 4, 2022.

Last year, after a pandemic-ridden 2020, which caused several films to be delayed in production, as well as theater shutdowns, Warner Bros. decided on a day-and-date plan for all its films. The plan allowed all the studio’s films in its 2021 release slate to be simultaneously released on HBO Max and in theaters. The plan, though mysteriously controversial, boosted HBO Max’s subscriptions, making it a successful move. However, the studio had also pre-decided to go for theatre-exclusive releases for 2022, allowing a 45-day window before the film was up for streaming. Looks like, The Batman is the first film of the year from Warner Bros. to go through that plan.

Besides The Batman, the studio has also greenlit a spin-off series tentatively titled The Penguin, which will take us on a dive into Colin Farrell’s character from the film. Farrell will return to reprise the role, continuing its arc from the film. Earlier, Matt Reeves has hinted at another spin-off centered around Gotham City Police Department being greenlit, but that project is no longer moving ahead. Instead, he has suggested a series based on Arkham Asylum that could go on floors, tying up with The Batman. The new series would be a re-work of the GCP-based series and would involve Matt Reeves in the capacity of an executive producer.

The Batman, after record opening weekend, is now touching $252 Million on the domestic box office, while another $225 million on the international front, totaling its earnings from theatrical screenings to $478 million. Given that The Batman has no film of such a grand stature and fan-following competing against it, it may very soon spike up beyond these figures without hassle.

The Batman is currently running in theaters and its success is likely to get viewers back for another experience when the film gets listed on HBO Max. Do you think HBO Maxwell get better traction and subscribers with its new 45-Days From Release plan against its former Day-And-Date Plan for Warner Bros.-distributed projects.
