The Batman actor Robert Pattinson came to enjoy getting suited up as the Dark Knight. This weekend, The Batman is playing in movie theaters worldwide following a tumultuous production and many significant delays. Most filmgoers and critics seem to agree that Pattinson shines as the new Batman with hopes that we will see the actor continue his adventures in the role with the inevitable follow-up film.
Speaking with The Los Angeles Times to help promote the release, Pattinson opened up on playing the Batman role. Of course, playing Batman means spending many long days suited up as the caped crusader, and as cosplayers will know, spending prolonged amounts of time dressed up as a superhero can become uncomfortable. That wasn’t quite so much the case for Pattinson, because, as the actor describes, putting on the Batsuit actually made him more comfortable and relaxed.

Pattinson also notes how putting on the suit helped him to better focus on the task at hand, a feeling he imagines Bruce Wayne also experienced every time he got into “character” as the Dark Knight.
“There’s a weird pleasure to spending long amounts of time in the suit and in the dark. You’re quite sealed off from everybody else when you’re inside the cowl, and it’s quite meditative. You’re alone a lot of the time. No one is chatting with you because you’ve got the mask on and you can’t hear. It allows you to slip into this quite Zen state.”
“There was so much chaos going on in real life every single day, as soon as you got out of that studio and looked at your phone, you had to really silence a lot of that stuff to even focus on what you were doing in the first place. The same as Bruce putting on the suit, you go into this kind of strangely simplistic state where you can really just focus on one thing. You’re just thinking, ‘If there’s still a world after we finish this movie there’s still going to be Batman fans in it, so you’d better not mess this up.’”
We Will Probably See More of Robert Pattinson in the Batsuit
Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films
The Batman doesn’t have a sequel greenlit just yet, although there are no less than two spinoff shows in development at HBO Max. One of them will bring back Colin Farrell as the Penguin to explore more of the supervillain’s rise to power in Gotham City. The other series will focus on the Gotham Police Department.
Given the success we are seeing with The Batman, it seems inevitable that the film will be given a sequel as well. While we await the official word from Warner Bros., both Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson have said they’re open to doing more. They’ve been thinking about different possible story ideas with Pattinson noting that he would love to see his Batman do something with the Court of Owls.
The Batman is now playing in movie theaters everywhere.
