Even though The Batman had Riddler as the main villain, the infamous Joker appeared at the end of the movie, with Eternals’ Barry Keoghan playing the Clown Prince of Crime.

Now that Matt Reeves has confirmed that the awaited sequel is in active development, with the director already working on the script, the fans are hoping to see Keoghan return as Batman’s nemesis to finally have Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne facing the most popular and ruthless villain in the franchise.

While speaking with the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Barry has shown his interest in returning as the villain and anticipated a few things he has been preparing in case he’s called to play the character again:

By his short participation in the movie, fans have been speculating that Keoghan’s version of the Joker could be similar to the Death of the Family arc, which has the character’s face cut off and reattached, further disfiguring the criminal clown left with green hair, bleached white skin, and a permanent rictus grin after falling into a vat of acidic chemicals.

“Obviously I’d love another crack. I’ve got a ton of back work done on him. If an opportunity does arise but, you know, they make the call, and I’ve got to respect that. I’ve got a few other things I’d love to bring. Actually, I have this little half-Moleskin book I’ve written a lot in already and so yeah, I want to show people what that is.”

Batman’s Future With DC and Warner Bros

     Warner Bros. Pictures

Given the enormous success and great reception that The Batman experienced during 2022, the changes in Warner Media and the creation of DC Studios have not affected the future of Reeves’ take on The Dark Knight. On the contrary, reports indicate that the storyline will continue as planned, with the director working on some side projects, such as The Penguin spin-off starring Colin Farrell, which will connect directly with the sequel.

Another one that got away with building its own universe is Todd Phillips’ Joker, with Joaquin Phoenix set to return as Arthur Fleck for a second film that will include Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. Joker: Folie à Deux will tell the audience how both characters met during their time in Arkham Asylum, and, according to various reports, it will be told as a musical. The Batman sequel isn’t scheduled to release until 2025 at the earliest, while Joker: Folie à Deux is slated for release on Oct. 4, 2024.
