Newly revealed concept art offers our best idea yet of what Ben Affleck would have looked like had his solo Batman gone ahead. Unveiled by Keith Christensen via Instagram, the artwork shows off a full body shot of both the front and back of the proposed Batsuit, with the artist designing “a consistent, modular, functional suit made from ballistic materials,” and confirming in a caption alongside the images that the suit “was designed when Ben A was directing and starring in #thebatman.”

Clearly showing Ben Affleck’s distinguishable chin beneath the cowl, these newly released images are sure to continue the call from Batman fans asking for Warner Bros. to resurrect the actor’s solo movie alongside the recently released The Batman starring Robert Pattinson.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ben Affleck had initially planned to continue to his tenure as The Dark Knight following his introduction as an aged Bruce Wayne in 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Featuring as the DC character again in Justice League (and Zack Snyder’s Justice League), Affleck intended to direct and star in a solo Batman outing that would have seen him do battle with Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke. Unfortunately, Affleck ultimately walked away from the project, paving the way for director Matt Reeves to reboot the character once again and craft a franchise separate from the DC Cinematic Universe.

The Batman Director Has Since Revealed Several Details Regarding the Script for Ben Affleck’s Canceled Movie

     Warner Bros. Pictures

While many of the details surrounding Ben Affleck’s Batman movie remain unknown, The Batman director Matt Reeves recently revealed a few bits and pieces, describing the script as “James Bond-ian.”

“I just knew that when I read it this particular script was not the way I’d want to do it,” Reeves began. “I said look, I think maybe I’m not the person for this. And I explained to them why I love this character. I told them that there have been so many great movies, but if I were to do this, I’d have to make it personal, so that I understood what I was going to do with it, so that I know where to put the camera, so that I know what to tell the actors, so that I know what the story should be. This take, I told them, pointing at the script, is a totally valid and exciting take. It is almost James Bond-ian, but it wasn’t something that I quite related to.”

Thankfully for Batfleck fans, we have not seen the last of his Caped Crusader. The actor will reprise the role, possibly for the last time, in the upcoming DC outing The Flash which is also due to re-introduce Michael Keaton’s iteration of the beloved character. The Flash is scheduled to be released in the United States on June 23, 2023, following a recent delay.

As for The Batman, Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s effort has proven to be hugely popular with audiences, grossing over $463 million at the box office so far. Several spinoffs are already in development, with The Batman expected to be the beginning of another trilogy.
