The Batman strikes fear in the heart of Gotham’s criminals in a glorious new 4k image of Robert Pattinson as The Dark Knight. Bathed in a golden hue, the image, which was released on Twitter courtesy of user @BatmanFiles, depicts The Batman in the highest of high definitions and gives us an incredibly detailed look at the homemade armor that Bruce Wayne will use to battle the merciless underworld of Gotham City.
The idea of The Batman’s Batsuit looking homemade is no accident, with director Matt Reeves including his leading man Robert Pattinson in the design. “Rob [Pattinson] had a very important part in designing the suit in that he had to be able to wear it, he had to be able to fight in it,” the filmmaker has previously revealed regarding their approach to the iconic costume. “One of the things about this Batsuit is that it is very practical. The whole idea is that he’s made it himself. And so, we needed to be able to see how it would fit on him and all the ways he could move but also make it look like something that was still evolving.”

The Batsuit is Not the Only One of Batman’s Tools to Undergo Major Changes

Matt Reeves has not only made significant changes to the cape and cowl ensemble. The director is also hoping to bring something new to the Batmobile too. Aiming to make the famous car just as terrifying as the man who drives it, Reeves has taken inspiration from the horror maestro himself, Stephen King. “It has to make an appearance out of the shadows to intimidate, so I thought of it almost like Stephen King’s Christine,” Reeves explained. “I liked the idea of the car itself as a horror figure, making an animalistic appearance to really scare the hell out of the people Batman’s pursuing.”
For those perhaps unaware, Christine tells the haunting tale of a classic red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury named Christine, which seems to have a murderous mind of its own. Adapted by director John Carpenter from a novel by horror legend Stephen King, it’s certainly a telling source of inspiration for Matt Reeves, and suggests that, now that it is more heavily wrapped up in Batman’s modus operandi, the Batmobile will make more of an impact than ever before.
The Batman will introduce audiences to an early version of the character. Plying his trade as The Caped Crusader for just two years, The Batman faces his greatest threat yet when The Riddler draws him into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Targeting Gotham’s elites, the investigation will force Bruce Wayne to face some unwanted truths about his own family, and his influence as The Dark Knight.
The Batman stars Robert Pattinson Batman/Bruce Wayne, with a stellar cast backing up that includes the likes of Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson and Jeffery Wright as Commissioner Gordon. The Batman is scheduled to be released on March 4, 2022.
