Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games film series was one of the most successful in the young adult dystopian genre. Adapting Suzanne Collins’ book series of the same name, The Hunger Games almost became a $3 billion franchise with 2015’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2. Following the saga’s completion, fans wondered whether there would ever be another Hunger Games film. For years, the film franchise was on ice, and audiences began turning their attention towards other films.

With all that being said, nothing was quite able to fill the void that The Hunger Games series had left. In 2020, Suzanne Collins released a new book called The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes that served as both a spin-off and prequel to The Hunger Games trilogy. That book has led to the revival of Lionsgate’s film franchise. Here’s where you may have already seen the cast of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Tom Blyth

     Epix

Before Coriolanus Snow was Donald Sutherland, he was Tom Blyth. Blyth has been cast as a younger version of the character before Snow became President of Panem. The most prominent role in Blyth’s career so far has been the titular character in the Epix original series Billy the Kid. Other characters Blyth has played include Sid in Scott and Sid and Glen Byam Shaw in Benediction. There aren’t many major credits in Blyth’s filmography just yet, but that will likely change after the Hunger Games prequel comes out.

Rachel Zegler

     20th Century Studios

Rachel Zegler has been cast as Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from District 12, the same district as the later Katniss Everdeen. Zegler’s breakout role was Maria in the 2021 remake of West Side Story from Steven Spielberg. It has been announced that she will be providing the voice of Princess Ellian for Spellbound on Apple TV+. Zegler will also be playing Anthea, the daughter of Atlas, in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Her most anticipated role, however, is in an upcoming film from Disney and The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb; she has been cast as Snow White and will be acting opposite Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen.

Hunter Schafer

     HBO

The first season of Euphoria marked the acting debut of fashion model, artist, and LGBTQ+ rights activist Hunter Schafer. She joined the main cast as transgender high school student Jules Vaughn, and even co-wrote the show’s tenth episode. Outside of Euphoria, Schafer did the English dub for Ruka “Ruka-chan” Watanabe in the 2021 Japanese animated film Belle. Schafer has been cast in the lead role of Gretchen in an upcoming horror film called Cuckoo. As Tigris Snow, Schafer will be playing Coriolanus’ cousin in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes.

Peter Dinklage

Best known for his role of Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage has appeared in many other popular television series and films. Dinklage has played James in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Eddy Plant in Pixels, Hervé Villechaize in My Dinner with Hervé, and Frank in Death at a Funeral. He recently played a crime lord in the black comedy thriller I Care a Lot. Marvel fans have seen Dinklage portray two important characters in two different Marvel universes. Dinklage first appeared as Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the military scientist that created the Sentinels and doomed the future. Later, Dinklage played Eitri in Avengers: Infinity War and in deleted scenes from Thor: Love and Thunder.

Viola Davis

     Showtime

An incredible, award-winning actress, Viola Davis has been starring in films since the 90s. Davis played Aibileen Clark in the 2011 comedy drama The Help, for which she won a Screen Actors Guild Award. She has also been recognized for her role as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away with Murder and Maxson in Fences. After joining the DC Extended Universe in 2016’s Suicide Squad, Davis returned as Amanda Waller in The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Black Adam. In 2020, Davis portrayed Ma Rainey in the biopic Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, with both her and co-star Chadwick Boseman winning lead acting awards. As reported by the New York Post, history was made with Boseman and Davis becoming the first Black actors to win in leading categories at the SAG Awards.

Jason Schwartzman

     Fox Searchlight Pictures

Stanley Tucci’s Caesar Flickerman wasn’t always around to host the Hunger Games. Caesar hosted the 74th and 75th Hunger Games and his ancestor, Lucretius “Lucky” Flickerman, was there hosting the 10th. Lionsgate has chosen Jason Schwartzman to portray the character, the former drummer of the band Phantom Planet. So far, Schwartzman has appeared in seven of director Wes Anderson’s films, which has included the roles of M. Jean in The Grand Budapest Hotel, Ashton Fox in Fantastic Mr. Fox, Cousin Ben in Moonrise Kingdom, and Jack in The Darjeeling Limited. Other notable roles include Louis XVI of France in Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette and Albert Markovski in I Heart Huckabees.
