Another familiar face has been confirmed for a return in That ’90s Show. Coming to Netflix in January, the series serves as a continuation of the hit sitcom That ’70s Show, now taking place in the 1990s with Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty Forman (Debra Jo Rupp) still living in their empty nest in Point Place, Wisconsin. It was previously revealed that most of the original main cast members are coming back, and now, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, it’s now been revealed that Don Stark also returns as Bob Pinciotti.

It was announced last year that That ’90s Show was in development at Netflix, and at the time, it was only revealed that Smith and Rupp would be the only returning cast members. Speaking about the spinoff in a new interview, Stark says he figured he wouldn’t be invited when he first saw that announcement made. The call eventually did come, though it took a while, and Stark was then thrilled once he realized that his return as Bob was real./

“I had family saying, ‘Oh, wow, that’s great,’ and I said, ‘Let’s just pump the brakes because you don’t know exactly what this means,’” the actor explained. “It was a long time before I was approached on whether or not I would be coming back, so when they let me know, I was really excited about that and to see everybody again.”

Stark also says that it was like “riding a bike” when it came to slipping back into the role of Bob, a character he hasn’t played since 2006. There was no preparation needed, as once the old clothing and the sideburns were applied, Stark was already feeling like he never left the role.

“As soon as the clothes came on, and the wig came on, and the sideburns, and the jewelry, everything just kind of snapped. It was great. It was seamless,” Stark says. “There was nothing to do, my Bob accent was right there at the ready, and it was fantastic. Bob is still that same guy: He means well, and he’s got a big heart, but doesn’t always think things through completely or at all.”

That ’90s Show Introduces a New Gang in the Old Basement

It’s worth noting that the series also brings back most of the original cast members who played the teenage gang from That ’70s Show. Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, and Wilmer Valderrama are all coming back. Danny Masterson is noticeably absent from that list, and that’s most likely due to the actor’s recent rape trial. While Tommy Chong previously revealed Leo would also return, Stark says he believes he was the last original cast member asked to come back. He also has high praise for the new cast members playing the gang of teens in That ’90s Show.

“Everybody was back on the show except for Danny [Masterson], given the circumstances,” Stark says. “I’m looking forward to seeing what they did with all the different characters and I’m just so proud of all the people that were in the show and how well they’ve done since.”

That ’90s Show is set to premiere on Netflix on Jan. 19, 2023.
