The plan is for the third Terrifier movie to take the series back to its roots. At this point, filmmaker Damien Leone is planning to make Terrifier 3 following the recent success of Terrifier 2. The second film, which brought back David Howard Thornton as the viciously violent Art the Clown, blew away box office expectations when it hit theaters in August. Terrifier 2 was also well received by horror fans, though many were left vomiting at the theater due to the film’s gross, graphic content.

It’s not yet clear when we can expect to see Terrifier 3, but Leone is offering some new clues about his plans for the franchise’s third installment. Taking to Twitter, the filmmaker wrote a post noting that he wants the new movie to feel similar in tone to the original short film that inspired the first Terrifier. If he can manage to “recapture the creep factor” that the Art the Clown character brought to the table in his first appearance in shorts, Leone feels Terrifier 3 will become the scariest one of them all.

“One of my main goals for Terrifier 3 is to recapture the creep factor present in the original Terrifier short film,” Leone explains. “That had a genuinely spooky atmosphere that I’m still proud of. If all goes as planned, part 3 will be the scariest Terrifier thus far.”

Art the Clown Is Here to Stay

Art the Clown was first introduced by Leone in the 2008 short film The 9th Circle. The short follows a young woman getting abducted by the killer clown from an empty train station on Halloween night. The Art character also appeared in his own 2011 short film called Terrifier, similarly featuring the clown tormenting a woman who’d witnessed one of his murders. Both of these short films were included in the feature-length horror anthology movie All Hallows’ Eve, which also featured new footage of Art upping his body count.

With Art the Clown’s solo Terrifier movies hitting well with horror fans, the character has become one of modern horror’s most popular antagonists. This popularity coupled with Leone’s excitement over doing more with Art the Clown in future Terrifier installments would suggest that the killer clown will be around for some time to come.
