In two years, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will celebrate its 40th anniversary. What started as a satirical indie comic has blossomed into a major franchise with tons of different reboots. Over the weekend, series co-creator Kevin Eastman spoke with IGN on the legacy of the franchise and voiced out to Seth Rogan, who will reboot the Turtles once again in an upcoming movie. His words? “I don’t want him to feel intimidated.”
Eastman made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 over the weekend to promote Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, an upcoming collection of classic games in the franchise. After speaking with IGN about his experience working on the games (with some focus on that pesky water level in the NES game), Eastman took a moment to focus on the beauty of TMNT’s unique reboots. IGN representative Kat Bailey mentions the upcoming Seth Rogan movie ‘focusing on the teenage aspect’ of the characters and asked for his reaction. Eastman answered with the following.

Eastman was later asked about the possibility of his own involvement in the upcoming movie. He responded with no but stated he was open to the possibility if Rogen desired his input. To him, that was actually a good thing!
One detail that makes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles so unique as a franchise is that it embraces its differences from other giants. Whether you grew up with the gritty original 80’s comics, the whacky and kid-friendly first cartoon, the more sci-fi oriented 2012 series, or even the more mystical and magical Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there is always something for you here! Eastman embraces the variety in the different generations of Turtles, there’s always room for more in the Turtle family… just be sure to order enough pizza!
