Though it was one of the best Werewolf shows, Teen Wolf’s lackluster conclusion after six great seasons left viewers wanting more. It’s not an exaggeration to say the finale of the series, which aired from 2011 to 2017, broke the internet with its many surprising twists and turns. Teen Wolf: The Movie is the original series’ sequel and marks the franchise’s return to the screen after an absence of nearly five years. Even though the fans have already caused quite a stir in the communities, the trailer for the upcoming sequel released by Paramount Plus has boosted the buzz significantly.
The original series followed Tyler Posey’s Scott McCall, who becomes a werewolf after being bitten by Tyler Hoechlin’s Derek Hale. After defeating countless adversaries and defending Beacon Hills from other werewolf packs, Scott becomes the alpha, eventually leading his own pack.
According to the ending explained by Hollywood Reporter, the show concludes with Scott rescuing a young werewolf from Monroe’s hunters. So there’s more to the story, which is why the Teen Wolf: The Movie trailer has arrived. If you’re perplexed after seeing the trailer or looking for answers to your questions, we hope you’ll find them here as we break down the trailer into a comprehensible explanation.
Back to Beacon Hills and Allison’s Return
The trailer begins with the typical unsettling atmosphere of the original series, as Sheriff Stilinski walks warily through a dark path, gripping his handgun. In the following scene, we see The Oni, who were introduced in the third season, mercilessly slashing a man. “Something brought them back,” JR Bourne’s Christ Argent asserts. The Oni apparently not only killed someone but also caused quite a commotion by wrecking a building and leaving a few of their tracks. Deacon Hills’ revered doctor Deaton, who had played an essential role in Scott’s crusade, inspects the scene and decides to bring the Alpha back to town after a prolonged absence.
Scott returns to Beacon Hills and, using his alpha crimson eyes, enters the unstable and half-destroyed building in search of answers about the town’s new enemy. The scenes that follow focus on his companions, Derek, who now has a son who is trying to learn from his father, and Lydia, the banshee, who is struggling with her work life and memories of Allison’s tragedy. To everyone’s disbelief, she senses Allison returning from dead and informs Scott. Surprisingly, it is not a delusion since everyone, including Chris, Scott, and Lydia, claims to see her, and all of their answers can be found in Beacon Hills. Does this imply that the pack will reunite in their hometown?
The Oni Strikes Again
Paramount+
The Oni, who first emerged in the third season of the original series, were a group of demonic warriors who were neither evil nor holy. As we proceed further into the trailer, they show us Allison Argent, for real this time, rather than leading us to believe it was all a figment of their imagination. Eventually, the characters begin to question if she’s really the Allison who came back from the dead, owing to their experience of witnessing some strange things in the past.
Unfortunately, Allison has no memories and no idea who Scott is, as revealed in the trailer when she points a crossbow at Scott in panic. Scott realizes that whatever is occurring is not good for Beacon Hills and tries to gather his pack to fight back against the unstoppable enemies that have terrorized werewolves and hunters alike since the third season.
The Alpha Gathers His Pack
The trailer is almost at its conclusion at this point, but the real fun is just beginning. It is shown that Malia growls at Peter Hale, who doesn’t seem to make much of an impression with his abrupt entrances, and as Deaton explains, “The Nogitsune has come to play a new game.” As seen in the later scene, the imprisoned Nogitsune kills the guard and escapes, adding to Deaton and Lydia’s statements on how everything is connected, including the reappearance of The Oni.
At this point, Allison has turned antagonistic, following in the footsteps of her ancestors, and begins hunting werewolves in the same way Gerard used to. As Scott and his pack attempt to stop Allison from going crazy and being killed again, they discover that Nogitsune has brainwashed Allison and is on a quest to eliminate her friends, most likely for a hidden objective or simply for revenge.
Scott’s “I’m still standing, I’m still the Alpha” declaration, however, reveals that he’s having problems with his pack and implies that they’re trying to kill Allison as they’ve gotten out of control. The trailer concludes with Scott giving his all to save his allies, Pack and Allison, both from Nogitsune and The Oni, while the latter is hell-bent on hunting the former and everyone associated with it.
The film appears to have chosen one of the series’ most interesting antagonists as well as the most emotionally compelling circumstances for the film. The trailer pretty much covers the story, bypassing any spoilers we could catch a whiff of.
Teen Wolf: The Movie is set to premiere on Paramount+ on January 26, 2023.
