Taron Egerton collapsed on stage during the first performance of his new play, Cock. As per Deadline, the 32-year-old star was quickly attended to by a doctor in the audience, and the situation was brought under control, with director Marianne Elliott assuring the crowd that Egerton was “absolutely fine” backstage. The play resumed after a 40-minute delay. However, Egerton took the night off and his understudy, Joel Harper-Jackson, stepped in to finish the remainder of the show.
Taron Egerton released a statement on his Instagram story to provide a health update. He also thanked his co-stars and promised to return “with a vengeance.”
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Written by Mike Bartlett, Cock centers on a gay man who begins to question his sexuality after falling in love with a woman. Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey stars in Cock in the lead role, alongside Taron Egerton as his boyfriend M. Phil Daniels (EastEnders) and Jade Anouka (His Dark Materials) also star in the play. Cock premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in London in 2009, starring future A-listers Ben Whishaw, Andrew Scott, and Katherine Parkinson.
“As some of you may have heard, I passed out during the first performance of Cock last night. I am completely fine. Slightly sore neck and a bruised ego but I’m fine. I’ve decided to put a positive spin on it and I would appreciate it if anyone who was in the theatre last night just said that I gave such a committed, electrifying performance that my body couldn’t handle it and checked out. That being said, apparently you’re meant to actually do the full show and not just three quarters of it. So I’ll be back with a vengeance tomorrow night. That you to the amazing team at the theatre and my wonderful cast mates for being so lovely. But mainly I wanted to say thanks to Joel harper Jackson who stepped in to do the last bit of the play. Joel is an amazing actor and a lovely person. Thank you Joel. T x.”
The current revival of Cock will run for 12 weeks till June, and hopefully, Egerton will be healthier than ever upon his return.
Taron Egerton Is Rumored To Play The Wolverine In The MCU
Taron Egerton is at the top of fans’ wishlist to take over from Hugh Jackman as Marvel’s Wolverine. The Golden Globe-winning actor is already a part of a comic book franchise (Kingsman) and is one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood right now. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is releasing this summer, and the internet is rife with rumors of X-Men and the Fantastic Four’s MCU debuts in the film. Egerton is also rumored to appear in the film as Wolverine, but said otherwise last month, which doesn’t mean much, as Andrew Garfield has proven on multiple occasions. Here’s what Egerton said to Digital Spy:
Taron Egerton will next appear in Tetris, an Apple TV+ original film about the development of the iconic video game of Tetris.
“There’s no truth in it at all. There’s no truth in it. It would, be, obviously, really exciting, but I don’t know… Yeah, of course [I’d take that role]. That’s like playing Bond. It would be exciting to play a role where you play to such a huge audience. Those movies are the most-watched movies in the world. It’s a great thrill, and it’s a great part. But there’s no truth in it. Very flattering, though.”
