The sudden passing of legendary voiceover artist Kevin Conroy still has many in mourning with fans and friends of the Batman actor continuing to post tribute messages online. Tara Strong, also a prolific voiceover artist, had often worked with Conroy on a variety of DC projects, sometimes joining his Batman as Batgirl, Harley Quinn, and other characters. She was also a close friend of Conroy and spent a lot of time with him at fan conventions and other special events.

Shortly after it was announced that Conroy had died, Strong posted a brief message online noting that her “heart is broken.” With her heart still aching, Strong took to Twitter on Saturday to post a thread sharing her thoughts and memories of Conroy along with several photos of the two together from over the years. She begins her Twitter thread by going back to the start of her career as a struggling actor when she managed to snag the role of Batgirl in The New Batman Adventures. Strong went on to explain how the voice of Batman was the first person to make her feel comfortable with the exciting job.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“I was ecstatic. The very first recording I met Kevin Conroy & he could not have been more gracious. He made me feel comfortable, Wanted, worthy. Imagine 20something me sitting between Kevin & Mark Hamill, I kept pinching myself, not just for obvious reasons, but because they were both f*cking brilliant. As was the rest of the cast, Arleen Sorkin, Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Loren Lester, Adrienne Barbeau, Diane Pershing, Mathew Valencia & all the extraordinary guest actors. All trained, accomplished actors, especially Kevin who played Hamlet & several Broadway roles.”

Conroy was perfect for Batman in many ways, as the actor was even more wonderful behind the scenes. Strong can recall many memories of sharing laughs with Conroy any time the two were together, remembering him as one of the warmest, kindest souls she’s ever known.

While she cherishes the memories, Strong still can’t help but feel immense heartbreak over the tragic loss. One small source of comfort is the knowledge that his work as the definitive Batman performer will ensure that he is forever remembered, loved, and appreciated.

“He was perfect. He was put on this earth to breathe life into Batman & share his light as the Dark Knight to millions around the globe. I cherish every moment by his side & there were many. We laughed A LOT. Kevin had the deepest Batman laugh. I have so many extraordinary memories working with Kevie, to go back & be a bat on the wall would be magic for any soul, but especially Batman fans. Over the Years I’ve been blessed to have voiced Batgirl & later Harley Quinn on countless shows, games & rides and EVERY SINGLE TIME I see those character names on my scripts my heart sings. Every time we did a con together, it was a fantastic reunion, especially for The Killing Joke at NYCC.”

Strong is one of millions across the world that’s missing their Batman, but through his many performances as the Dark Knight, Conroy’s legacy will live on forever. Rest in peace.

“The world lost a legend last week. The world is different. There’s a big black hole in my heart. It makes me sick to think I’ll never hug him, feel his warm smile or hear his voice alive again, but thanks to his brilliance, his voice lives on forever. He IS Batman. No one played him better. There will never be another Kevin Conroy. Aside from his talent he was a true mensch. He always gave 100% to his fans. He always gave 100% to all he did. I’m gonna miss you friend. Until we meet again in that big Batcave in the sky. G’night Batsie.”
