As a franchise, The Walking Dead has become more massive than the zombie hordes plague the show’s survivors. The original series, which is based on a comic book of the same name, debuted over a decade ago and is currently in its eleventh season. Unfortunately for long-time fans of the series, season eleven will be the last, as the show has waned in popularity in recent years.

However, there is plenty more zombie content to go around. There has already been a couple of spinoff series produced in the same universe, and news of an impending finale was coupled with the announcement of four new shows, some of which will focus on fan-favorite characters.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The most recent spinoff in The Walking Dead’s television universe is Tales of the Walking Dead, an anthology series that focuses on individuals stories of, for the most part, previously unseen survivors of the zombie (or rather, walker, biter, etc…) apocalypse. So far, two episodes of the series have been released. The first episode, “Evie/Joe,” features Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Deadpool II) as a doomsday prepper who was well-prepared for the apocalypse, and the second, “Blair/Gina,” is a unique sci-fi tale about two coworkers caught in a time loop at the beginning of the zombie infestation.

Though the show represents a dramatic departure from the original series, there may be some familiar faces in upcoming episodes. Which The Walking Dead characters could appear in Tales of the Walking Dead?

Everyone’s Favorite Crossbow Carrying Redneck, Daryl Dixon

There is perhaps no character more beloved in The Walking Dead universe than Daryl Dixon, who is portrayed by Norman Reedus. He is a whiz with a crossbow and has racked up an incredible array of character moments, both violent and heart-warming in nature, throughout the series. His character is so popular that he will have his own spinoff series, the title of which is currently unknown.

Daryl is one of the few characters introduced at the very beginning of the show that still remains. As such, fans have definitely seen a whole lot of Daryl. Nevertheless, it is possible that the character could appear in Tales of the Walking Dead. Though his whereabouts for the bulk of the zombie apocalypse are accounted for, there is a stretch of time before he met the rest of the original characters when Daryl navigated the dystopian landscape with his brother which is largely unexplored.

It would certainly make for a crowd-pleasing cameo if a character in the new spinoff were about to be devoured by a walker, only to be saved by a perfectly placed crossbow bolt.

The Governor, an All-Time Classic Walking Dead Villain

The Governor, who is portrayed by English actor David Morrissey, was one of the most compelling villains in the history of The Walking Dead. Though he initially appeared to be a benevolent leader, his murderous rage was quickly revealed.

Unlike some characters in the series, The Governor was largely stationary during the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, having taken the helm of the heavily fortified town Woodbury. An episode set inside the walls of Woodbury could shed additional light on the difficulties of living under The Governor’s iron fist.

Negan, the Spiked Bat Swinging Baddie

     AMC

Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, was a prominent character in the original comic books of the same name. His introduction to The Walking Dead brought about one of the most shocking and brutal moments in the history of the series. In an act of retaliation against the series’ main gang of survivors for killing several members of his crew, The Saviors, Negan uses his barb-wire-wrapped baseball bat to kill Glenn, Steven Yeun’s beloved character. This shocking death came in the first few moments of season seven after the identity of Negan’s victim was left as a cliffhanger at the end of season six.

Given the fact that almost half of the series had already taken place before audiences were introduced to Negan, it’s reasonable to assume that the character could cross paths with characters in Tales of the Walking Dead. The Saviors have a wide-reaching empire that encompasses much of the area in the Washington D.C. area, and they use force to subjugate several surrounding communities. Countless survivors came into contact with The Saviors, so it is easy to imagine a storyline involving Negan.

Tales of the Walking Dead has already differentiated itself from the series that preceded it, both in content and theme. However, given the original show’s popularity and how many classic characters it has produced, a few well-placed cameos could be just the thing that brings skeptical fans to the new spinoff.
