Bianca Kajlich is the latest addition to the cast of The CW’s Supernatural prequel, The Winchesters. The Legacies star will play Millie Winchester, the grandmother of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), the protagonists of Supernatural. This announcement follows last week’s casting of Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly as Sam and Dean’s parents, John and Mary Winchester.

Supernatural ended its 15-year run in 2020, but there is much left to explore in the Winchester family saga. In June 2021, The CW greenlit the show, titled The Winchesters, with Robbie Thompson penning the script and Jensen Ackles returning as a narrator. Set in the ‘60s, the show follows the younger versions of John and Mary Winchester (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith in Supernatural). Last month, the network gave a pilot order for the series, with Glen Winter (Arrow, Supergirl) directing. Jensen and Danneel Ackles will executive produce The Winchesters.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The official synopsis of the show reads: “Before Sam and Dean, there was John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean, The Winchesters is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.”

However, The Winchesters will be headlined by rising stars Drake Rodger (The In Between) and Meg Donnelly (American Housewife), who will play the lead, John and Mary Winchester (née Campbell).

As per their character descriptions, “Mary is 19 years old and has been fighting the forces of darkness since she was a child. After losing someone close to her, the hardened hunter considers quitting the family business — until her father’s disappearance and the arrival of newcomer John forces her to lead a new team.”

Rodger’s John “has recently returned from Vietnam. Selfless and clear headed, he finds a new mission back home, where traces of his father’s past lead him to a secret organization and a whole new war as a hunter.”

Jared Padalecki is Not Involved in The Winchesters

Jared Padalecki was just as surprised as the fans when The Winchesters was announced. He came to know about the show from social media and was predictably disappointed. Padalecki’s reaction to the show’s announcement set off rumors of a falling out between him and Ackles, which later turned out to be false. As for why Padalecki wasn’t told about The Winchesters, it was because he wasn’t involved in the show, and Ackles didn’t want to “jinx” it by telling too many people. But there is no love lost between the duo, who played on-screen brothers for 15 years.

Jared Padalecki currently headlines The CW’s Walker, a reboot of the 1990’s western drama Walker, Texas Ranger, starring Chuck Norris. Walker debuted in 2020 and has been renewed for a third season. A prequel series is also in development.

Jensen Ackles, on the other hand, will next appear as Soldier Boy in The Boys season 3, reuniting with his Supernatural creator, Eric Kripke. He is also developing a secret DC project with Greg Berlanti.
