SPOILER ALERT: This story contains spoilers for the season 2 finale of Superman & Lois.The season finale of Superman & Lois aired on Tuesday night, and many fans aren’t happy with the episode’s big revelation. In the first two seasons, it had seemingly been established that Superman & Lois takes place on Earth-Prime, sharing continuity with all of the other Arrowverse shows to come before it. An appearance from John Diggle (David Ramsey) seemed to further establish the show’s place in the Arrowverse.

But many fans had been questioning why there haven’t been more Arrowverse connections. Heading up to the season 2 finale, it had been teased that all would be revealed in the episode. That happened, but it wasn’t the explanation fans were expecting, as it was revealed that Superman & Lois is actually not set on Earth-Prime. Many fans would have preferred for the series to stay in the same Arrowverse world that they’d already spent years investing in, and with Superman & Lois falling outside of that, some don’t even want to bother coming back for season 3.

“Superman & Lois isn’t part of the Arrowverse??” one fan put it. “The CW and Warner Bros. TV continue to show no respect for the franchise that helped put the network on the map. So these characters are basically dopplegangers. Way to ruin a show.”

“Well. No need to watch it if it’s not connected,” says someone else. “Two seasons of waiting for connections for THAT? Not happy #SupermanAndLois! At all! It makes zero sense and seems a kick in the teeth to those invested in the #Arrowverse, no matter what shows are left!”

Supergirl fans have also been weighing in and expressing disappointment that this means Melissa Benoist will likely not appear on Superman & Lois. As one fan writes, “So I guess now the only chance of seeing Melissa Benoist reprise Supergirl again is if they get her on The Flash… Superman & Lois is confirmed a different earth where she apparently doesn’t exist, and every other Arrowverse show has ended / been cancelled. Not happy.”

The Flash Is the Last Series Set on Earth-Prime

If Superman & Lois is not on Earth-Prime, that makes The Flash the last of the Arrowverse shows set in the original continuity. In March, the series was renewed for season 9, so The Flash isn’t going anywhere just yet. There are rumors that season 9 will be the last of that series, meaning the original Arrowverse continuity will die out if no other spinoffs are announced before then if that’s the case.

Meanwhile, Superman & Lois will also be moving forward, even if it’s not on Earth-Prime. The series was renewed for a third season back in March while other shows like Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman had gotten the boot. We could very well see Superman & Lois as the last one standing, but old school Arrowverse fans may not be thrilled about that.
