Henry Cavill is out as Superman in the DCU, leaving the door open for a new actor to become the next live-action incarnation of the popular superhero. In October, Cavill announced that he was returning to the role with plans to appear in many upcoming films, but that was before James Gunn and Peter Safran were put in charge of DC Studios moving forward. Gunn has since confirmed his plans to reboot the Man of Steel with a younger actor in the role in place of Cavill.
This led to fantasy casting from fans imagining who might be a good fit as the DCU’s Superman. Jacob Elordi of Euphoria is someone whose name has come up in the past as a good contender, and with Gunn announcing his plans to go with a younger actor, that’s renewed some fan interest in seeing Elordi get the part. Now, clements.ink on Instagram has posted new artwork featuring how Elordi may appear in the DCU, complete with classic Superman tights.

In addition to his role in Euphoria, Elordi has also appeared in the Kissing Booth trilogy along with other films like Swinging Safari, The Mortuary Collection, and Deep Water. While he may or may not get the part of Superman, his next role seems to be an exciting one as he plays Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley biopic Priscilla. The film, which also stars Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla, is currently in production.

Whoever the DCU’s Superman Will Be, it Won’t Be Henry Cavill
Warner Bros.
All that’s known at this time concerning the next Superman is that it won’t be Henry Cavill. The planned reboot set in the DCU will be penned by James Gunn, who says that the film is not an origin story but follows a younger version of Superman. Cavill, who has already moved on by signing on to star in a Warhammer 40k adaptation, described the news that he wouldn’t continue as the Man of Steel as a “sad” development.
“I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” Cavill says in part in a statement posted to Instagram. “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to [the hiring of James Gunn and Peter Safran], this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.”
