New fan art is making the case for David Corenswet to play Clark Kent in the upcoming Superman reboot from writer James Gunn. While Henry Cavill reprised the role for a special appearance in Black Adam, meant to tease several more films to feature this version of the Man of Steel, those plans were tossed when Gunn was hired to steer the ship of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. Gunn has since confirmed his new plans to reboot the character for the DCU, and he’s looking to cast a younger actor in the role.
Of course, this has led to fans doing fantasy casting online, picking their favorite choices for actors who’d be good at playing a younger incarnation of Superman. Digital artist horrific.heroics on Instagram has been deadset on seeing David Corenswet in the role, crafting up some new artwork imagining how that might appear.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“If we can’t have Henry Cavill then my mind is set, David Corenswet IS Superman,” the artist notes in the caption. “The man has the acting chops, the look and can build up his physique to be a bit more super!
While there’s plenty actors who could take the role such as Wolfgang Novogratz, I personally think David is the best contender to take up the mantle moving forward.”

Corenswet, the grandson of Choose Your Own Adventure book creator Edward Packard, recently appeared in the Netflix movie Look Both Ways as well as A24’s horror prequel Pearl. He also appeared in HBO’s We Own This City, following notable roles in the Ryan Murphy-created shows The Politician and Hollywood.

Superman Will Be Rebooted for the DCU
DC Comics
At this point, fans can only continue to speculate who will play the next Superman. We will also likely see more and more fan art imagining other actors in the role until an official announcement is made. In any case, all we know for sure is that it won’t be Henry Cavill who said that his time wearing the cape has officially come to an end after one last appearance in Black Adam.
“I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” Cavill announced on Instagram last month. “For those who have been by my side through the years….. we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember…. Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”
