Suicide Squad and Training Day director David Ayer will helm Jason Statham’s next foray into action movies in The Bee Keeper. As per a report by Deadline, The Bee Keeper will see Statham once again unite with Miramax, with The Stath and Ayer leading an action project that has been described as “a lightning-paced thriller deeply steeped in the mythology of Bee Keeping.” Not words we ever thought we’d see alongside the name Jason Statham.
The plan is to shop The Bee Keeper at the upcoming Cannes market, and truly Jason Statham and director David Ayer sound like a match made in action movie heaven. Statham has of course made his name as an action hero since the early noughties and roles in the likes of The Transporter franchise, Crank, The Expendables, The Mechanic, The Fast and Furious franchise, and many, many more.

David Ayer, meanwhile, has become well-known for his gritty-and-grounded approach in the likes of Training Day, End of Watch, and Street Kings, something which he has transferred over to the more fantastical in the likes of Suicide Squad and Netflix’s Bright.
The Bee Keeper was announced at the end of last year, and will be a “fast-paced action-thriller, which is steeped in the mythology of beekeeping, follows a man’s personal journey of vengeance which takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as the ‘Beekeepers’.” So, a role that is tailor-made for The Stath — which is not something you would have assumed when hearing that he’s a beekeeper.
“Having collaborated with Jason on Wrath Of Man and Operation Fortune, and with David on Fury, we are fortunate to partner with these masters of the new action genre to bring Kurt’s brilliant script to the first installment of this franchise,” Miramax CEO Bill Block said in a statement. “The Bee Keeper explores universal themes with an unconventional story that will have fans sitting on the edge of their seats,” Block previously said of the somewhat mysterious project. “We’re excited to bring another iconic and irresistible film to audiences around the globe.”
The Bee Keeper does not yet have a release date. Statham will produce alongside Kurt Wimmer with Miramax’s Bil Block and Chris Long for Cedar Park Studios. The studio hopes for it to spawn a new franchise for Statham.
Jason Statham Has Several Exciting Action Projects on the Horizon
Miramax/STX Entertainment
The Bee Keeper is just one of several action-infused projects on the horizon for Jason Statham, who continues to fly the flag for wonderful, no-nonsense action movies. Statham will once again be a part of The Expendables in The Expendables 4, which will reportedly see the actor take over and lead the franchise following the departure of Sylvester Stallone.
As well as once again battling foes with his crew, Statham will also once again battle a big shark in The Meg sequel, Meg 2: The Trench, from director Ben Wheatley. The Statham sequels continue with Fast X, which will see the action star reprise the role of Deckard Shaw. Finally, Statham will reunite with director Guy Ritchie for the action-comedy Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. Clearly, now is a great time to be a fan of The Stath.
