One Suicide Squad movie was enough for Scott Eastwood. In 2016, Eastwood had a role in director David Ayer’s original film as “GQ” Edwards, a Navy SEAL Lieutenant who assists Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) with the group’s mission. That role was originally supposed to go to Shia LeBeouf, though Ayer saw great potential in Eastwood and insisted on casting him for the part. In a new interview with Insider, Eastwood explains how committed Ayer was to bringing him in.

The “Ayer cut” Eastwood mentions here is referring to the alternate cut of Suicide Squad that existed before studio-mandated changes drastically affected the final cut. Ayer has spoken about how lots of footage he intended to be shown wound up axed, with characters like Jared Leto’s Joker having their screen time drastically reduced. The same was apparently true for Eastwood, who doesn’t appear for very long in the theatrical release of the movie.

In any case, Eastwood might have had more to do in The Suicide Squad, James Gunn’s 2021 follow-up that serves as a sequel by bringing back a handful of the same characters. However, he was apprehensive about signing on when the offer to appear in that movie came his way. Eastwood says the money offer was low and that there wasn’t a script for him to look at, so he had trouble committing to the project. After calling father Clint for advice, Eastwood ended up turning the sequel down.

Scott Eastwood is possibly finished with the DCEU, but he could be making a mark in the MCU. He has long been a popular pick with fans as someone who could play the next Logan when the X-Men debut in the MCU, as Kevin Feige has confirmed will happen at some point. No casting announcements have been made for Wolverine or the other characters, but Eastwood agrees with the fans that he should play the part.
