The drama series Succession has been dubbed one of the best shows on TV at the moment and has earned numerous accolades, such as multiple Emmys, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes. What makes the show so great? As the 2022 SAG awards suggested last weekend, it has to do with the show’s extraordinary cast. One member of that fantastic cast is Cousin Greg, played by Nicholas Braun. Nicknamed “Greg the Egg” since childhood, he is the cousin of the Roy clan and has greatly suffered due to his outsider status. Desperate to be included and only let in by another outsider, Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) son-in-law Tom (Matthew Macfadyen), Cousin Greg quickly made it to the top of everyone’s favorite character list. Although super smart, the character tends to be oblivious to matters concerning the family business. As the Roys suffer ups and downs, Greg has always ensured his place in the family is still secure.

In season one, we see Greg as the new guy as he makes his way into Waystar Royco with the help of Tom, who tends to use him as a punching bag. He is usually sidelined by the Roy children battling for Logan’s throne, but the second and third seasons showed how he was almost set to take the fall for the family and end up in prison. Assured by Logan and Kendall that he would be well taken care of during the 3rd season, Greg always made sure to do what worked to his benefit.
As we wonder what could be next for cousin Greg now that he has avoided prison as the family’s sacrificial lamb, the series writer, Georgia Pritchett, has hinted what kind of relationship could be on the horizon for him. With his toxic co-dependence on Tom, definitely one of the strongest relationships on the show, so much so that fans have speculated a romantic relationship between the two, there is a slight hint of other bonds Greg has formed romantically. Season three, however, did show the character pining for Kendall Roy’s assistant, Comfrey, but it led to nothing.

Speaking on the Homo Sapiens podcast, Pritchett said: “It’s interesting how characters take on a life of their own.”
“I had sort of advocated for Greg to be gay, until last season he hadn’t really done anything with anyone,” she said. “The kids kind of move in a circle where I think anything goes. I don’t think anyone’s closeted or not gonna do what they want to do, so.”
When speaking about the family’s youngest son, who lacks a sense of self-awareness and accountability and is a bit on the immature side, Pritchett admitted Roman (Kieran Culkin) was “on the surface a pretty awful human being, but when you look beneath the surface, he’s so damaged, he’s so vulnerable, he’s so insecure.”
Roman’s romantic relationship hasn’t been so dramatized in comparison to his siblings either. His relationship with his girlfriend Tabitha (Caitlin Fitzgerald) even comes to a stop when Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron) comes along to fulfill his needs. His relationships with other members of the family showcase him as immature and the rebel of the family; however, Pritchett declined this perception of him as the season three finale suggested that Roman profoundly cares and loves his family.
Teasing about his future character arc in the upcoming season, Pritchett said about Roman’s “omnivorous” character: “He feels a bit fluid and pan and I don’t think he’d hold back if he fancied doing something.”
Pritchett didn’t answer many of the burning questions fans have for season four and left plenty open about what’s to come, but nonetheless, fans are definitely excited. And they are not the only ones, as the cast of Succession shared to Variety last weekend after the big win that they were expecting “fresh hell.”
