Business is, well, no easy business. In any money-making venture, innumerable difficult decisions are being made. A business owner needs to balance the concerns of their employees, which could range from only a few to in the hundreds, with the cutthroat nature inherent to making a profit. Lives can potentially be ruined at the same rate that an enterprise turns a profit, and all the while, one needs to be constantly aware of outside forces that seek to usurp their success.

Dealing with high-level business deals is made especially difficult when both your rivals and allies in the corporate sphere are your family and friends. This is, essentially, the premise of the hit HBO television series Succession. It centers around the Roys, a gaggle of uber-rich, multi-generational family members whose distinct personalities and disparate ambitions are the sources of constant drama. Here’s everything we know about Succession season four.

Season 4: The Plot

Many questions were left unanswered at the end of Succession season three. The Roy family is as fractured as ever, the health of the elderly Logan Roy remains in question, and outside elements have converged around the family business, threatening its future.

HBO has provided a brief synopsis of the upcoming season, which reads:

This new season promises the same business drama that characterized earlier installments, as well as a newly introduced yet exceedingly relevant political element. And, of course, the family dynamics that have always served to elevate the humanity of the series.

Season 4: The Cast

One factor that has made Succession such a must-watch television series over the course of its first three seasons is the incredible cast of characters it brings to the table. Some have broad name recognition, while others are relatively new to Hollywood, though almost every person involved in the production delivers pitch-perfect performances. Many of these talented actors will return for the upcoming season, much to the delight of audiences everywhere.

Of course, at the center of the series will be Brian Cox (Braveheart, Zodiac), who portrays Logan Roy, the family’s patriarch who started the multi-billion dollar Waystar RoyCo, a performance that earned Cox a Golden Globe for Best Actor. Alongside his character is Hiam Abbass’ (Munich, Blade Runner 2049) Marcia Roy, his clever and conniving third wife. His eccentric family will also be featured.

Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Dropout) returns as Connor, the black sheep of the family. Jeremy Strong (The Big Short, The Trial of the Chicago 7), who also earned a Golden Globe for his performance, is the ambitious addict Kendall, constantly attempting to undermine his father’s leadership role at Waystar RoyCo. Kieran Culkin (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) returns as Roman, an eccentric partier with a surprisingly keen eye for business. Sarah Snook (Steve Jobs, Pieces of a Woman) plays Sioban “Shiv,” Logan Roy’s only daughter. As a politically savvy player, she was, earlier in the series, expected to take over the family business after Kendall’s attempted takeover.

Additionally, several Roy family-adjacent characters will likely make an appearance. This includes Nicholas Braun’s (Sky High, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) Greg Hirsch, a quirky Roy cousin who has stumbled his way to the top of the business ladder, and Matthew Macfadyen’s (Pride & Prejudice, Frost/Nixon) as Tom Wambsgans, Shiv Roy’s beleaguered husband.

Finally, a few actors who serve as antagonists in the series will be featured. Alexander Skarsgård’s (Godzilla vs. Kong, The Northman) Lukas Matsson is a tech billionaire who spent the series’ later seasons attempting to acquire Waystar RoyCo. HBO’s early promotional materials have indicated he will be a major player in season four. Additionally, Justin Kirk’s (Modern Family, Vice) Jered Mencken, a populist (read: alt-right) politician supported by the Roys, may prove to be a problem in the new season.

Release Date

As of yet, there is no official release for Succession season four. However, it is widely expected to debut sometime in 2023. It’s been over a year since the release of season three. However, if previous installments are any indication, season four will absolutely be worth the wait.

Audiences have long been waiting in anxious anticipation for Succession season four to be released. The series’ stellar cast, as well as the promise of drama-rich storylines, could make it the most watchable season to date.
