Worlds collided with Joseph Quinn met with Metallica at a rehearsal for the band’s gig at Lollapalooza. In the fourth season of Stranger Things, Quinn portrayed the fan favorite character Eddie Munson, a huge Metallica fan who has a pivotal scene performing the group’s hit song “Master of Puppets” in one of the season’s most memorable moments. This brought Metallica back into the spotlight with renewed attention on “Master of Puppets” along with the band’s other work.

It was perhaps a matter of time before Quinn and Metallica were in the same place, and as seen in a video posted to TikTok by Netflix, it during Lollapalooza rehearsals. You can watch the video below.

At the start of the clip, Quinn addressed the camera and expresses his excitement about getting to meet Metallica backstage at Lollapalooza. He can then be seen speaking with the different members of the band with Quinn telling the world-famous musicians that he felt a personal connection with them after listening to Metallica music for two years straight for his Stranger Things role. Quinn even joins Metallica in a jam session, a moment that would have certainly made Eddie Munson thrilled.

“We’d like to make an announcement: Metallica is now a five piece, guys,” Lars Ulrich says after rocking out with Quinn.

A guitarist, Quinn actually learned the chords for “Master of Puppets” for his role as Eddie Munson. The actor addressed how surreal it felt to actually be hanging out and making music with the famous band.

“It was amazing! Opportunities to play ‘Master of Puppets’ with the most iconic metal band of all time don’t come around very often,” Quinn said fo the opportunity, via Tudum. “A story for the grandkids.”

Metallica also said of seeing their music in the series, “The way the Duffer brothers have incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been next level. But to have such a pivotal scene built around it… we were all stoked to see the final result. And when we did, we were totally blown away.”

“Master of Puppets” was originally released on March 3, 1986. It is not the only song to be given a resurgence in popularity thanks to Stranger Things, as Kate Bush can attest. Bush’s classic song “Running Up That Hill” has also risen back up thanks to its inclusion in the latest season of Stranger Things. Whatever ends up happening in the fifth and final season of the Netflix show, there will certainly be many musicians from the 1980s hoping that their music will be featured.
