With just one season left of Stranger Things to go before the hit Netflix show ends its run, series star Caleb McLaughlin has been thinking about the kinds of roles that might be coming next. From the start of its run in 2016, McLaughlin has portrayed Lucas Sinclair, one of the show’s main characters. He has also appeared in movies like High Flying Bird and Concrete Cowboy and has been doing voiceover work for animated shows like Summer Camp Island, Ultra City Smiths, and The Boys Presents: Diabolical.
In a Q&A session with fans at Heroes Comic Con Belgium, McLauhglin spoke about which roles he may want to take on in the future. As an actor, he says he’s “open to being any character,” and teases that he has some projects in the works that he’s developing himself. However, the first role that came to mind for McLaughlin was Static Shock, a DC superhero who has a feature film adaptation in the works. The character was previously popularized by the animated series Static Shock.

Static Shock: The Movie Is Happening
A Static Shock movie has been long-gestating at Warner Bros., though its future came under question after the Warner Bros. Discovery merger that saw the cancelation of Batgirl among other movies and TV shows. In September, a writer attached to the project, Nikolas Draper-Ivery, confirmed on social media that the movie was still on track. He couldn’t provide any additional details but encouraged fans to “be patient.”
The Static Shock movie was announced at DC FanDome in 2020. Director Reginald Hudlin announced the news, stating that the film was in development for a planned theatrical release. Obviously, a lot has changed since then, but as of now, it should help for fans to know that the latest word is that the project is still happening.
