Spoiler Warning: Stranger Things Season 4

A month has passed since the jaw-dropping finale of Stranger Things season 4, and fans have not stopped coming up with ideas, plots, and spin-offs to what could come in season 5. With the final scene of the season causing a stir on social media, it’s only to be said that the last season of the hit show will be one to mark on the calendars. The Duffer Brothers have done it again, and all that is left to be said or, in this case, done is to offer them a huge round of applause.

The highs and lows that season 4 brought could have broken the internet, and initially did with the incredible guitar solo that Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson did, the cliffhanger at the end, and of course, the heart-pounding introduction to the classic, and now revival hit, of “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush. With teases of season 5 causing hysteria online, fans have not shaken the bug and have gone to the lengths of even creating their own renditions of next season’s teaser poster.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

In hopes of resurrections in the upcoming season, the thrilling idea should be put to rest due to an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Matt Duffer – one of the showrunners – stated, “We aren’t Game of Thrones,” which was known for killing off and reviving characters. But even after hearing this, fans stick to their theories and of course, we hear them out.

Does Vecna Have Max’s Soul?

     Netflix

After coming close to death under Jamie Campbell’s Vena/Henry, fans believe Max, played by Sadie Sink, is undoubtedly not out of the woods yet. Unable to be found when Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, entered her mind, fans have come to think that Vecna is in possession of her soul. The presumption that this theory could be true has gaged the thought of Vecna using a live character to do his bidding.

But taking a beloved character such as Max and turning her into the villain of the show does not sound like a very Duffer Brothers thing to do, whereas the dramatics can make you think otherwise. After highlighting Max’s memories, especially her friendship with Eleven, quite a bit in season 4, fans have come up with the idea that it could be a hint to resurrect her in season 5.

Is Will’s Connection to Vecna His Downfall?

After stating how he can “still feel” Vecna and him being alive, Will’s final scene where he gets chills on the nape of his neck left us all jumping out of our seats. At this point, we all knew Will would be playing a central role in season 5.

Another theory to add to the list is Will’s connection to Vecna being his inevitable downfall. After assuming the best from escaping the Mind Flayer, fans have constructed one of two theories against Will. Firstly, Will’s mother, Joyce Byers, portrayed by Winona Ryder, called him a “sensitive kid” in season 1. Vecna/Henry’s father, Victor Creel, played by Robert Englund, stated that his son is “sensitive” when speaking to Nancy and Robin in season 4. Will may become a vessel to Vecna. The second theory is that Will could be used as a weapon in tracking, killing Vecna, and even answering questions about the Upside Down.

Will the Characters Time Travel?

With the Upside Down frozen in time from when Will first entered its domain (1983), fans think that the Duffer Brothers may be hinting at a spin-off after season 5. Speculating that the main characters will be able to time travel back to the beginning with the knowledge they have in the present is a far stretch. On the other hand, the idea that they can travel to stop Vecna/Henry in his younger years could be an intriguing play on things, seeing how time works differently in the Upside Down.

Is Eddie the Vampire Lieutenant?

Fans have gone as far as petitioning to bring the beloved Eddie Munson back. Reaching 84,000 of the 150,000 signatures needed, the Stranger Things congregation is not backing down, but in this net theory, we see why they won’t.

Dungeons and Dragons fans caught a major win for this theory, so we saved the best for last. In the game Dungeons and Dragons, Vecna is in the possession of a servant known to be a warrior of immense power. The story of Vecna’s vampire lieutenant, “Kas he Bloody-Handed,” states that Kas killed Vecna after years of serving him.

Throwback to the first episode of season 4 where “The Hellfire Club” were playing a heated game of DnD, Eddie revealed that Vecna did not die to which Mike, played by Finn Wolfhard, projects that “he was killed by Kas!” Fans may have hit the hammer on the nail with this theory as Kas died fighting bats – similar to Eddie – only to be resurrected as Vecna’s lieutenant. With Kas being part-human-part-vampire, this has made fans assume that as a result of dying from the bats, Eddie could not only come back through Vecna but in the vampire form serving him, thus killing him later on.

However, in an interview with Collider, Quin said:

Fans have found the idea of Eddie’s resurrection so interesting that they have come to think that characters who died in the Upside Down could most probably find their way into season 5. No matter which theory is true, Stranger Things writers will resist adding new characters to season 5. But in the meantime, let’s hope and wonder what could be of the next and final season of Stranger Things.
