After a long wait, Stranger Things season 4 finally debuted on Netflix last month and is already the biggest show in the world. The first seven episodes of Stranger Things season 4 are streaming on Netflix right now, but fans will have to wait another month for the feature-length final two episodes of the series. While Stranger Things 4 Volume 1 has already astonished fans with its new villain Vecna and his shocking identity reveal, mature violence, and several emotional moments, the finale promises to double down on all the chaos and spectacle the series is known for.

Along with a slew of other announcements, Netflix released an official sneak peek at Stranger Things 4 Volume 2 as part of its Geeked Week event. The 30-second clip doesn’t give away much but does tease a looming battle between Eleven and Vecna and mysterious creatures contained in Russia. You can check out the teaser below.

“It’s over, Eleven. You have freed me. You can’t stop this now,” Vecna warns as he prepares to invade the world. It’s unclear what this means considering it was Eleven/Jane (Millie Bobby Brown) who trapped him in the Upside Down in the first place. Did Vecna set his sinister plans in motion because Eleven lost her powers and moved away from Hawkins? Guess we’ll find out when Stranger Things 4 Volume 2 arrives on July 1.

The sneak peek also gave a glimpse of more Upside Down creatures as Hopper (David Harbour), Joyce (Winona Ryder), and Murray (Brett Gelman) investigate a Russian lab. The Hawkins crew, on the other hand, are trying to stop Vecna directly from the Upside Down while Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) and the Byers brothers are completely missing. One minor criticism of Stranger Things season 4 is the underutilization of Mike and Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), two of the most compelling characters in the series. The creators even forgot Will’s birthday. Hopefully, all the plots will converge in the finale for an epic reunion between the old and the new characters.

Also starring Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Joe Quinn, Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 will premiere on Netflix on July 1 with two extra-long episodes.

Fans Should Brace Themselves For An ‘Extremely Emotional’ Stranger Things Season 4 Finale

Stranger Things 4 Volume 1 had its fair share of emotional highs, especially with Max (Sadie Sink) escaping Vecna’s clutches with Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” playing in the background. However, per Stranger Things director and producer Shawn Levy, the season 4 finale will be even more melodramatic. In an interview with THR, Levy said,

Stranger Things co-creator Matt Duffer echoed Levy’s sentiments, saying, “[Volume 2] has a little bit of everything. It’s extremely emotional while also having the most action and spectacle we’ve ever had.” The Duffer Brothers have also warned fans that the “kids are no longer kids,” and they are in real danger this time. Plus, there has been too much emphasis on death this season, and even during the promotions, the Stranger Things cast couldn’t help but tease that they may not make it out alive of season 4. In any case, viewers should definitely keep a box of tissues handy when Stranger Things 4 Volume 2 debuts next month.

“Having seen both those finale episodes, they are as emotional as they are cinematic. Holy shit, they are definitely a treat for the eyes, but they punch you right in the heart. So, that’s what I’ll say about that.”
