Stranger Things fans are now coming to terms with the news that the main series is coming to an end with its fifth season sometime in the next year. While the Duffer Brothers have also said that the end of the series will still leave fans wanting more from the series, they have also made it pretty evident that there are more stories to be told in the Stranger Things universe, but they have as yet kept those plans to themselves. However, in a recent interview, Matt and Ross Duffer have hinted that they have plenty of ideas.

Stranger Things returns to Netflix on May 27 with the first half of its penultimate season. Seemingly taking the story in many different directions and going down a much darker route than even the third season, everything is certainly building to an epic finale of one of Netflix’s biggest and reportedly most expensive IPs. Because of that, it is unlikely that Netflix will want to let the series come to a complete close anytime soon, so the Duffer’s comments in SFX Magazine will be welcomed with open arms by both the streamer. Adding to that, Ross Duffer said:

“We haven’t told anyone our plans! Not even Netflix! We have some ideas. In terms of if we were to do any sort of a spin-off, or any continuation of Stranger Things, for us the bar was always, ‘Is the idea exciting enough that we feel the pull of wanting to do it again?’ I want to feel the pull of, ‘God, I really want to do this. I feel really, really excited about this.’ So that’s why we’re being careful about what that is and whether we move forward with it or not.”

“The key for us is that it needs to feel like its own distinct thing, not that we’re just retreading what we’ve already done, because what would be the point of that? I do think we have something that could be pretty exciting. So we’ll see…”

Stranger Things Season 4 is the Biggest Yet

After a long wait, Stranger Things season 4 is promising big things, with a sprawling narrative split across the world, more time spent in the Upside Down than any other season, an appearance by horror icon Robert Englund and of course, that brand-new villain, Vecna. With plenty of mysteries already being teased, the first half of the season is going to become one of the biggest debuts on Netflix ever.

While the scope of the series is vast, with the overall length being almost double that of previous ones, the Duffers obviously have an over-arching plan about the series as a whole and will not be allowing this season to be bigger than the final one. How exactly all this can get any bigger is something we will have to wait a while yet to see, but with many fan theories out there, the speculation will only be heightened by the arrival of the new episodes this summer.
