Stranger Things has continued its record-breaking run on Netflix by bringing the previous seasons of the show back into the top 10 of Netflix’s most-watched programs. Following a huge opening for season 4, Stranger Things has continued to rack up hours of viewing time and is well on the way to being the most-watched show on Netflix ever. While those who binge-watched the first seven episodes of the season in one go, the wait is now on for the final two episodes arriving on July 1, and that has given plenty of people an incentive to revisit previous seasons of the show.
Stranger Things season 4 arrived at the end of May with seven feature-length episodes that returned to Hawkins, Indiana, brought us up to date with Eleven, Mike and the rest of the regulars, and introduced a new terrifying villain in the form of Vecna. Over its first three days, the show had over 287 million hours watched, pushing it above Bridgerton as the most watched opening for a series ever.

Thanks to the popularity of the new season, as well as taking the top spot in a list of the most-watched Netflix series of the week with over 335 million watched hours, seasons 1, 2 and 3 claimed second to fourth place with 75, 58 and 47 million watched hours respectively. In a post by media analyst Rich Greenfield, a table of the top 10 proved just how popular Stranger Things has been compared to the rest of the top 10.
The Boost of Stranger Things Has Come At The Right Time For Netflix
Netflix has not had a great time lately, with reports of massive overspending, the company’s share value being downgraded after $50 billion was wiped from its market value, and a massive drop in subscriber numbers compared to previous predictions. While the surge in interest in one of the streamer’s IPs isn’t going to be quite enough to strip away all of their woes, it is certainly going to come as a relief to see one of their most popular shows still managing to do the business.
Stranger Things is already overtaking Bridgerton as the most viewed English language series on the platform with over 620 million hours of viewership in two weeks. At the rate it is going, it should have no issues challenging the 1.6 billion hours that Squid Game pulled in over the first 28 days on release. As well as regenerating interest in the previous seasons of the show, Netflix will also have in mind that as well as the final two episodes of the season to come, there is also the final season arriving in the next couple of years, which will likely be even bigger and see a new wave of viewing hours for the series as a hole.
The final two episodes of season 4 have a combined runtime of around four hours, meaning that there is still a lot more to come from this penultimate season of what could well become the biggest streaming series of all time.
