The Flash Showrunner’s Felt They Had to Bring Back Stephen Amell as Green Arrow One Last Time

     Warner Bros. Television Distribution

Stephen Amell began what would come to be known as The Arrowverse back in 2012, with the first season of Arrow introducing the actor as Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow, a billionaire playboy who becomes a hooded vigilante with an affinity for archery after being stranded on a deserted island. Considering he was the one that started it all, the showrunners behind The Flash felt bringing him back one last time was the right thing to do.

“As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen,” The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace said in a statement to Deadline regarding Stephen Amell’s return. “After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash. The result is an epic-yet-emotional episode we hope Arrowverse fans will enjoy. It’s all to say ’thank you’ to everyone for watching and supporting our show throughout nine wonderful years. We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen saving the world together again. And yes, there will be thrills, chills and tears.”

The Flash Season 9 is set to premiere on February 8, 2023, and is expected to be the final adventure set within The CW’s Arrowverse.
