The arrival of Eros in the final moments of Eternals brought the brother of Thanos into the MCU. While the introduction of the character, played by My Policeman and Don’t Worry Darling star Harry Styles, was not much of a surprise thanks to a number of spoilers posted before the movie’s release, Eros’ creator Jim Starlin has reservations about how the MCU will be able to adapt the character for a family-friendly audience.

While Thanos was big, purple and something of a brutal dictator in the MCU, his brother Eros comes with a number of problematic super-powers that mean his character will likely go through a lot of changes when he returns in his next MCU appearance with his side-kick, Pip the Troll. It is currently unknown where Eros will show up next, but Starlin recently told Inverse how he could see Pip working in the context of the MCU, but has doubts about Eros. He said:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

There has been no word yet as to when Harry Styles will be reprising his role in the MCU, but it is likely to be a little while, considering Eros/Starfox seems to be tied directly to an Eternals sequel, and that has not been announced as part of Phase 5. While there are still a couple of films to be announced for Phase 6, even that would make his next appearance at least a few years away.

“Pip will be the comic relief. He’s also a teleporter and that brings in all sorts of possibilities. Eros, on the other hand, he’s an interesting one. I have no idea what they’re going to do with him. I sort of left him as a sociopath and he is sort of a sexual predator. So I’ll be curious to see how the MCU Eros fares up against the other one. Especially in this day and age. So that’s always a tricky one.”

Eternals Doesn’t Seem Intricately Linked to the Multiverse Saga

     Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios has always worked on a “one step ahead” basis. During the Infinity Saga, there were characters and storylines hinted at that have only now started to come to fruition. In a similar way, the movies of Phase 4 have slowly introduced the multiverse, while mentions have also been subtly made to the X-Men, and the often fan-rumored future appearance of big bands such as Galactus and Mephisto. With that in mind, the Celestials of Eternals were first mentioned in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and made a surprise passing appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder, meaning that the Eternals future movies could actually be forming a future Saga.

One thing that an extended gap to the return of the Eternals creates is enough time for Kevin Feige and his team to work out exactly how to negate the issues that Eros could bring. Of course, there have been a number of changes made to some of the biggest characters in the MCU when compared to their comic book counterparts, and while there are some die-hard fans that always take this badly, general audiences have always accepted these adaptations and the same will likely be true of Eros.
