A four-minute hand-drawn animation from Lucas film and Studio Ghibli was recently released on Disney+. One of the cutest characters from the Star Wars universe, Grogu, often known as Baby Yoda, made a comeback after being last seen in the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett.
Directed by Katsuya Kondo, the film combines the best of both worlds by including Grogu from The Mandalorian and the award-winning Spirited Away’s anthropomorphized coal dust bunnies. Following its Star Wars: Vision television series, Disney’s involvement with other studios came as no surprise to many after their partnership with seven Japanese animation studios to bring together their unique perspectives to the Star Wars world through a series of short films.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Many were taken aback by the film’s announcement. A video of the Lucasfilm and Ghibli logos was first tweeted by Studio Ghibli, followed by a picture of a Grogu figurine. This sparked a lot of discussion about what the show might be about. Fans were left wanting more by Disney’s later tweet that just confirmed the show’s title.

Disney Gifts Fans on Mandalorian Anniversary
Lucasfilm
November 12th marks the 3rd anniversary of The Mandalorian. When it was released in 2019, The Mandalorian was one of Disney’s most significant achievements. The introduction of Baby Yoda led the majority of fans to fall back in love with the Star Wars Universe. It also succeeded in attracting a crowd that had never previously shown any interest in the franchise and went on to become a fan favorite. The father-son relationship between Grogu and Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) was fundamental to everything.
The second season of The Mandalorian ended on a cliffhanger when Din and Grogu were split up so that Grogu could undergo his Jedi training. Fans were left wondering what would happen to the duo after their reunion in The Book of Boba Fett. To commemorate this particular day, Disney provided fans with a brand-new animated short film featuring Grogu.
The Mandalorian’s third season is scheduled to premiere in February 2023. The trailer, which was released in September at the D23 Expo, hinted that Din was no longer a Mandalorian and described the pair as a “Clan of two.” Details of The Mandalorian Season 3 have mainly been kept a secret, but there is a suggestion that it will follow Pedro Pascal’s character on a path to redemption.
