Following the sudden cancelation of Wonder Woman 3, and the reported details that director Patty Jenkins was largely to blame, an insider has claimed that the Wonder Woman filmmaker was also the reason that the prospective Star Wars spinoff, Rogue Squadron, did not go ahead. Coming courtesy of The Hot Mic with Jeff Sneider and John Rocha, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was “a mess” with Jenkins the reason why the project ultimately stalled.
While Sneider is somewhat hesitant to reveal these details, he states that he has heard Jenkins is not at all easy to work with behind-the-scenes and that, much like reports regarding Wonder Woman 3 have claimed, her work on Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was not in line with what the studio wanted to see.
“I’ve heard some things about Patty Jenkins. I’ve heard she’s a nightmare. I’m sorry, I hate to be the guy who’s calling a woman a name, I get it, oh my God! But listen, I’ve said that about countless male directors, too. I’ve heard that everything that she turned in with Wonder Woman 3 was like, you know, a mess. I heard [that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron] was a mess.”
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron would have introduced a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy. While the project had been described as an original idea, it was assumed that the movie would have taken inspiration from a series of arcade-style action video games of the same name which began in the late 1990s for Nintendo consoles.
Ultimately, after months of development, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was removed from the Disney release schedule earlier this year. President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy has also confirmed that Rogue Squadron had been pushed off to the side. So, while the project is not completely dead, it is unlikely to happen anytime soon. Or have Patty Jenkins at the helm.
Warner Bros. Still Want to Make Wonder Woman 3 with Gal Gadot
Warner Bros. Studios
Amid the ongoing reports regarding the recalibration of the DC Cinematic Universe (DCU), it has been revealed that, while Wonder Woman 3 as director Patty Jenkins saw it has been canceled, the sequel is still something that the studio wants to make happen. “The hope for another Wonder Woman film exists,” a recent report by Deadline states. “The question is whether Gadot wants to make it sans Jenkins, and judging from the actress’ tweet two days before the explosive DC news, it sounds like she wants to stay aboard.”
It is unknown whether Gadot would return without Jenkins, but the actress did recently take to social media to celebrate the anniversary of her first appearance as Wonder Woman and tease the next chapter. “A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman,” she said. “I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you.”
Patty Jenkins will next produce the mystery comedy, Poolman, featuring Chris Pine in his directorial debut.
