Disney has been full force ahead when it comes to Star Wars content. Just this week we were treated to the new trailer for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming out May 25th 2022. We also have the fan-favorite The Mandalorian working on the highly anticipated season 3. But, what about the missing years of the story? The years between the events of Revenge of the Sith and The Force Awakens had to have had a lot more stories than we have seen? It may be told in a new animated Star Wars series.

Some of the best moments in the Star Wars universe actually took place thanks to Lucasfilm Animation’s The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Then, when the live-action Star Wars series made their debut, we saw two of those animated characters come to life, as The Mandalorian brought us Anakin’s apprentice Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan. Both of which were fan favorites from the animated universe. It now seems that another Star Wars animated series is in the works and coming to Disney+.

We know that the next series in the Star Wars universe that makes its way to Disney+ is Obi-Wan Kenobi, and we know that season 2 of The Bad Batch is coming soon as well. However, a new animated series is currently is in production. In a recent interview with The Convor Call, longtime Star Wars composer Kevin Kiner said that in addition to season 2 of The Bad Batch, Lucasfilm is working on a new animated project.

Having composed the music for The Clone Wars movie in 2008, as well as The Clone Wars series, Star Wars Rebels, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Kiner is clearly Lucasfilm Animation’s main composer. In addition to his own themes for characters like Omega and Ahsoka Tano, Kiner still pays tribute to original Star Wars composer John Williams.

Using the animated series to tell more stories of new characters and old, is a great way to connect the universe even more and dive into the history of some of our favorite characters or ones we have not met just yet. Just look what it did for Darth Maul who we met back in 1999 when he appeared in The Phantom Menace.

But, what will this new series be about? It could follow other Jedi as they try and survive the aftermath of order 66. Or, it could even show us more of Luke Skywalker’s school before it got destroyed maybe even the rise of the first order. One thing is for sure, the animated shows have proven to be just as important if not more in the galaxy as far as storytelling goes.
