During Sunday’s AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals, Paramount+ and CBS debuted the official trailer for the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard.

The new Star Trek: Picard trailer shows the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation reuniting for the first time in over 20 years at the edge of Federation space to face a new foe, Vadic (Amanda Plummer). Excitingly, the trailer also revealed that two new characters would join the Star Trek universe, Outlander’s Ed Speleers, and 12 Monkeys’ Todd Stashwick, when Picard begins airing this February. According to ET, “Speleers plays a new series regular who aids Beverly Crusher’s (Gates McFadden) medical efforts on worlds Starfleet has forgotten, while Stashwick portrays the captain of the USS Titan in a recurring role.”

Star Trek: Picard 3 Will Finish TNG Storylines

The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard features Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on TNG, and follows this iconic character into the next chapter of his life. LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan, and Michelle Hurd will star alongside Stewart in the third and final season of the Paramount+ original series.

“In this particular season, one of the north stars that we were following was that Jean-Luc Picard and his Next Generation cast never got a final send-off. It felt like after Star Trek: Nemesis, there wanted to be one more final story and we were faced with a really unique opportunity to do one last story telling a Picard story, a very personal story, but how better to end that journey with than to look back at the beginning and to bring his friends and family from Next Generation,” showrunner Terry Matalas said in January at the Television Critics Association press tour. “So there is a strong sense of conclusion to that particular storyline.”

CBS Studios produce the series in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. For season three, Stewart, Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Terry Matalas, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Doug Aarniokoski, and Dylan Massin serve as executive producers. Season 3 will premiere in the US on Feb. 16.
