Spider-Man: No Way Home writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna have teased the future of Tom Hardy’s Venom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The final post-credits scene at the tail end of Spider-Man: No Way Home showed Hardy’s Eddie Brock slowly losing his mind after finding himself transported from the Sony-Verse to the MCU. After suddenly being sent back to his universe, Brock leaves behind a small dollop of the Venom symbiote, which Erik Sommers confirms was intended to tease Venom’s eventual conflict with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

However, while the tiny glob of symbiote could lead to something more for Venom and his adventures in the MCU, Spider-Man: No Way Home co-writer Chris McKenna admitted that what this might entail is way above their pay grade. Speaking at the recent IGN Fan Fest, he added…

“It leaves the door open for possibilities. As opposed to just seeing him go back and not seeing any symbiote. So it just allows for some exciting possibilities in the future.”

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Spider-Man: No Way Home unleashes the multiverse on the MCU, bringing several villains from other franchises into the world of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. While the likes of Electro and The Green Goblin caused Parker all manner of headaches and heartbreak, it was a funny final sting to see Venom, one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies, have zero impact on events. For now, at least…

“I have no idea. That is above our pay grade. We are part of a bigger, larger universe that we are not the gods of, we’re just mortals in. I think it was a fun idea that the sixth [member of] the Sinister Six gets stuck in a bar and doesn’t get out of there, but maybe he leaves a little something behind. Again, we’re not masters of that course of that next adventure.”

Expect to See Spider-Man & Venom Collide in a Future Installment

While both Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna appear to be none-the-wiser regarding Venom’s future, audiences can be pretty confident in assuming that the symbiotic villain and Spider-Man will eventually collide on the big screen. Aside from the obvious tease at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has since explained why now is the time to bring the characters together.

“You look at the obvious comic connotations between Venom and Spider-Man and it is inherent,” Feige said back in December. “So the minute Sony made their Venom movie and it worked as well as it did, and Tom Hardy became as iconic as he has become as Venom, then the obvious question is then, ‘How do we start to merge them?’”

Thanks to the impressive financial achievements of both the first Venom and the recent Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Venom 3 is all but guaranteed, with Sony’s Amy Pascal saying they are now in the “planning stages” of the threequel.

Sony’s shared universe will continue with the upcoming Morbius. Starring Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson, Morbius is scheduled to be released in the United States on April 1, 2022.
