Spider-Man: No Way Home has registered the second-highest opening day box-office gross of all time. The film webbed $121M on its opening day, placing it just behind Avengers: Endgame but still surpassing Star Wars - Episode VII: The Force Awakens. No Way Home was already a fan-favorite before release, given that it brought back an ensemble of the cast from past Spider-Man films, going full-circle with Spidey’s lore in films. No Way Home earlier broke the pre-sales record when tickets went out. And those numbers did turn the audience to theaters experience this MCU event on big-screen.

As fans once again returned to theaters for watching Spider-Man: No Way Home, the new COVID threat, that is, the Omicron variant did result in low numbers in people’s presence on an opening day. That probably could be the reason for the film lagging behind Avengers: Endgame. The film has been projected to gross more than $200M through the weekend, with a worldwide projection reaching nearly $500M. The news of the new COVID variant may affect these numbers to some extent; however, it will still be a historic win at the box office for No Way Home.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Spider-Man: No Way Home has opened up with rave reviews from critics as well, as the film opened fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 95% rating at the review aggregator site (which stood at 99% when reviews came in first). The opening day ratings also became the second-best for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, behind only Black Panther which went to receive a Best Picture nomination at Academy Awards that year. The early reactions to the film were full of positive comments, with everyone praising the film for justifiably honoring the legacy of Spider-Man films, as well as for setting up the premise for promising multiversal and inter-dimensional stories that would now encompass most of the MCU.

Spider-Man: No Way Home isn’t just a box-office success, but it’s also a success of theatrical releases. Despite the emergent variant, Spider-Man: No Way Home has managed to garner unexpected numbers which have been possible due to the fans showing up to watch the film on screens. In what turned to be the biggest success in the pandemic era, the film has thus marked the re-emergence of the audience in theatres. While the film will do its own business, which currently seems to rise in the coming week, the film would certainly help the films releasing in 2022 further revive the box-office office and attract high numbers, especially the big studio releases.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now running in theaters. The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Marisa Tomei, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Thomas Haden Church, Rhys Ifans, Benedict Wong, & John Favreau. You can find more box office info at The Numbers.
