Spider-Man: No Way Home easily destroyed all box office competition with an astonishing $253 million debut this weekend. The latest joint venture from Sony and Marvel Studios now has the highest opening of the pandemic and the sixth highest-grossing movie of 2021 in a weekend. Prior to No Way Home, movies struggled to reach the $100 million opening weekend, with the highest opening of the pandemic going to Sony’s Venom: Let there Be Carnage at $90 million. While it was common knowledge that the return of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker was going to be huge, the sequel went ahead and sailed right past initial projections.
