Several new images of official merchandise for the upcoming animated outing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse seemingly reveal an appearance from another variant: the electric guitar-wielding Spider-Punk. Thanks to images shared by Twitter user @MCUMarvels, toys from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse offer our first look at Spider-Punk, with a mask sporting the character’s most triumphant horned mohawk while another reveals his musical instrument of choice.

While we already know of several Spider-Man variants who will appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, this is the first inkling we’ve had that Spider-Punk will play a role in proceedings. If these toys are indeed accurate in what they depict, they reveal that the somewhat more obscure Spider-Punk will make his big screen debut in the animated sequel.

Spider-Punk hails from Earth-138, and is an alternate version of Hobart Brown. While that name may not be familiar, the original Hobart Brown held the mantle of the Prowler, the same villainous alter ago used by Miles Morales’ uncle Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Created by Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel for the pages of Marvel Comics, this variant of Hobart gained his powers after being bitten by a spider irradiated by illegal waste dumping. He declares himself Spider-Man and fights for freedom and justice alongside several other alternate heroes.

No doubt the sight of Spider-Punk’s mohawk and guitar will make a very welcome addition to the ever-growing roster of Spider-Variants in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Will Throw Miles Morales Back into the Multiverse

Spider-Punk is just one of several variants due to join Miles Morales on his next adventure across the multiverse. Shameik Moore will reprise the role of Miles Morales AKA Spider-Man in the sequel, and is all set to be joined by Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara AKA Spider-Man 2099, an alternate version of Spider-Man from the future; Issa Rae as Jessica Drew AKA Spider-Woman, a pregnant woman with spider-like abilities; and the character Takuya Yamashiro, also known as the “Japanese Spider-Man,” from the 1978 Spider-Man series.

Miles will also be joined by some old friends in the form of Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy AKA Spider-Woman and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker AKA Spider-Man. Following the introduction of alternate Spider-Man in 2018’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see Miles Morales once again dragged into the multiverse. Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is transported to all manner of different universes as he joins forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

The villain in question has now been revealed to be The Spot, a B-list bad guy with the ability to access and manipulate interdimensional portals which become adhered to his skin. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World star Jason Schwartzman will voice the villain.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2023, and will be followed by a third movie, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is set to be released in March 2024.
