A new rumor claims that Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland will once again tackle the multiverse in the upcoming animated outing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Coming courtesy of The Cosmic Circus, sources have revealed that Holland’s webslinger will feature in the sequel in some way, with the smart money betting on it being a simple cameo as Miles Morales throws himself, well, across the spider-verse.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse writer and producer Phil Lord has teased an appearance not only from Tom Holland but also from the likes of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as well. “It’s a high bar to clear. The gauntlet has been thrown,” Lord said following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Miller adding, “All things are possible in the multiverse.”

While this is just a rumor at present, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man appearance in Across the Spider-Verse would be a welcome way for the franchise to continue the multiversal mayhem.

Across the Spider-Verse Will Feature All Manner of New Spidey Variants

Should these rumors be true, Tom Holland’s live-action iteration of Spider-Man would join a whole host of variants due to make an appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Main Spidey Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) is all set to once again explore the madness of the multiverse and will be teaming up with the likes of Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099, a version of the character from the future. Introduced during a post-credits scene at the end of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, O’Hara will have a much bigger role this time around.

Across the Spider-Verse will also feature some lesser-known Spider-People in the form of Ben Reilly aka the Scarlet Spider, a genetic clone of Peter Parker who possesses a similar power-set; Earth-138’s Spider-Punk, a variant who gained his powers after being bitten by a spider irradiated by illegal waste dumping and loves to sport a mohawk; and Cyborg Spider-Woman, a bulky, powerful variant with a giant gun for an arm. And all that is without even mentioning the likes of Issa Rae as Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman: a pregnant woman with spider-like abilities and the character Takuya Yamashiro aka “Japanese Spider-Man” from the 1978 Spider-Man series, both of which have been confirmed to play a part in proceedings.

But that’s not all! Morales will be joined by some old friends as well, including Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy aka Spider-Woman and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker aka Spider-Man, with the gang transported across the Multiverse to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

That villain has now been confirmed to be The Spot, proving an earlier rumor to be true. Voiced by Scott Pilgrim vs. the World star Jason Schwartzman, The Spot is a B-list bad guy with the ability to access and manipulate inter-dimensional portals which become adhered to his skin. An ability that will prove to be crucial in this multiversal adventure.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2023, with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse set to be released in March 2024.
