Merch and SPOILERS now seemingly go together like a lime and a coconut, so please, take the sip from this latest cocktail regarding the upcoming animated sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Thanks to an Across the Spider-Verse special edition of the board game Trouble (via Twitter user @haileestan2007), another Spider-Variant that will appear in the sequel has been revealed: Ben Reilly, aka The Scarlet Spider.
Created by writer Gerry Conway for Marvel Comics back in 1975, Ben Reilly truly rose to prominence after featuring in the infamous Clone Saga storyline in the 1990s. A genetic clone of Peter Parker, Reilly possesses a similar power-set to Parker and emerges as the superhero The Scarlet Spider, sporting a red-and-blue costume similar to Spider-Man’s with the addition of a sleeveless hoodie.

Based on the image revealed by the board game, the design for the Scarlet Spider due to appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be heavily inspired by his most iconic 90s look. So far, no further details have been revealed concerning how the character will factor into the multiversal madness. But he is far from the only somewhat obscure Spider-Man variant due to feature…
Prior merch for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has revealed that none other than Earth-138’s Spider-Punk will also make an appearance. Created by Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel for Marvel, this variant gained his powers after being bitten by a spider irradiated by illegal waste dumping. He declares himself Spider-Man and fights for freedom and justice while sporting a most triumphant horned mohawk and wielding a guitar.
Miles Morales & the Variants Will Battle The Spot in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Sony Pictures Releasing
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse star Shameik Moore will reprise the role of Miles Morales AKA Spider-Man, in the upcoming sequel. He is all set to be joined by Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara AKA Spider-Man 2099, an alternate version of Spider-Man from the future; Issa Rae as Jessica Drew AKA Spider-Woman, a pregnant woman with spider-like abilities; and the character Takuya Yamashiro, also known as the “Japanese Spider-Man,” from the 1978 Spider-Man series.
Alongside the variants, Miles will be joined by some old friends in the form of Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy AKA Spider-Woman and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker AKA Spider-Man. Following the introduction of alternate Spider-Man in 2018’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see Miles Morales once again dragged into the multiverse. The animated epic adventure will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.
That villain has now been revealed to be The Spot, voiced by Scott Pilgrim vs. the World star Jason Schwartzman. A B-list bad guy with the ability to access and manipulate inter-dimensional portals which become adhered to his skin.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2023, and will be followed by a third movie, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is set to be released in March 2024.
